"ROBOTEKA," a robot fighting action game inspired by "Karateka," Releases a Demo on Steam

Independent developer HAMMERVILLE has released a demo version of the innovative 2D fighting action game *ROBOTEKA* on Steam.Inspired by the 1984 Apple II classic *Karateka*, this side-scrolling action game has you wielding a robot’s unique karate style—"Robote"—to take on an evil organization. The full version is scheduled for release in November 2026.

A Unique System Focused on “Timing” and “Distance”

The game’s most distinctive feature is its extremely simple control scheme, consisting solely of shifting your weight using the left and right joysticks and a reverse button. The game is designed so that victory or defeat hinges not on quick reflexes, but on your ability to judge “timing” and “distance.”

By dodging enemy attacks at the last possible moment and landing strikes at the distance where your power is maximized, you can even take down an enemy with a single blow. Combining this with the reverse button allows you to execute a variety of techniques, such as roundhouse kicks.

MIKIRI Mode and Mission-Based Progression

If you narrowly dodge an enemy’s attack while your gauge is at MAX, “MIKIRI (Anticipation) Mode” is activated. Attacks in this mode deal three times the normal damage, creating a high-risk, high-reward dynamic.

Additionally, by clearing the missions set for each stage, you can not only level up your standard punches and kicks but also acquire new attack methods (moves). You can strategize by switching to the optimal attack method based on the enemy’s characteristics, but if you can read the distance correctly, you can clear stages spectacularly using just basic punches and kicks.

7 Stages and a 13-Track Original Soundtrack

The game features 7 stages depicting a near-future world rendered in detailed pixel art. It includes an original soundtrack of 13 tracks composed to match the game’s world, which heightens the excitement of battle. Created by a developer with a deep passion for real-world martial arts, the game offers a unique fighting experience that captures a facet of the allure of martial arts.

"ROBOTEKA" is scheduled for release on PC (Steam) in November 2026. The price has not yet been determined. A demo version is currently available for free on Steam.
