On November 6, Good Smile Company announced that it had partially reopened its official online store, which had been temporarily closed due to unauthorized access.

Unauthorized Access to Management System Occurred Around October 20

The company’s official online store had been temporarily closed following an unauthorized access incident to its management system that occurred around October 20. The company stated that it is currently working with KDDI I-Let Co., Ltd. and a third-party security team to implement measures to prevent a recurrence.

In this partial resumption of service, safety is the top priority, so the company is initially allowing users to view product information only. The site’s content has been restored to its pre-breach state using backups, and it reportedly contains no tampered data.In addition, vulnerabilities in the management system have been patched and security measures have been strengthened. An independent third-party security team has confirmed that there is no risk of virus infection or unauthorized data theft from simply browsing the site.

However, features involving personal information—such as logging into “My Account,” registering as a new member, placing orders, adding items to the cart, and using the “Watch List” feature—remain unavailable. These features are scheduled to resume once a third-party investigation is complete and security measures are fully implemented; a new announcement will be made as soon as the timing is determined.

Orders Resume at the Rakuten Ichiba Store

Until the official shop resumes accepting orders, prospective buyers in Japan are advised to use the “GOOD SMILE STORE Rakuten Ichiba Store”—which began accepting pre-orders for new products on November 6—or partner shops. For products scheduled to have their order deadlines during the official store’s closure period, the order deadline has been rescheduled to November 18, and orders are now being accepted at the Rakuten Ichiba store.

Given the possibility that customer information may have been compromised, the company is urging affected customers to remain vigilant against fraudulent attacks and credit card misuse, and to take appropriate precautions.
