Electronic Arts (EA) has begun distributing 11 titles from the classic RPG series *Ultima* on Steam.
The legend of Lord British is reborn on Steam!
The *Ultima* series is a line of RPGs that began with *Ultima I: The First Age of Darkness*, created by Richard Garriott in 1981.It is a classic RPG that is sometimes cited by the community as one of the “World’s Three Great RPGs,” alongside *Wizardry* (though opinions vary on the third title). Garriott founded Origin Systems in 1983, and EA acquired the company in 1992.
The collection now available on Steam includes a total of 11 titles: the nine main series entries numbered *I* through *IX*, plus the two *Ultima Underworld* spin-offs. All of these are making their Steam debut and are also available on GOG.com and the EA app.
According to EA’s official blog, these titles are positioned as faithful ports of the original games and are perfect for those who want to rediscover the groundbreaking world and gameplay that once took the gaming world by storm.
These titles are part of EA’s “Classic Game Revival Sale,” where each game is available at 50% off, and an “Ultima” bundle containing all 11 titles is also available. Unfortunately, none of them support Japanese.
As previously reported by Game*Spark, Mr. Garriott has indicated his intention to reclaim the rights to the *Ultima* series by utilizing the provisions of U.S. copyright law. The official return of the rights is scheduled for 2027, and Mr. Garriott has commented that holding these rights will make it possible to re-release past titles and produce sequels.
