This title, *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time*, is an action-adventure game released on November 5, 2026.It is a full remake of the game of the same name originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, in which Link, a young boy living in Kokiri Forest, teams up with his fairy companion Navi to face Ganondorf in a battle that will determine the fate of Hyrule.
While retaining the original adventure that travels between the two eras—Childhood and Adulthood—the game features completely revamped graphics, as well as new controls such as jumping and dashing, and a feature that allows players to hum into the microphone to play the Ocarina.

The more I played, and with every dungeon I cleared, I fell more and more in love with this game. Perhaps it’s because this title feels like it came from another era. You can tell that this remake doesn’t need to prove anything or chase trends. It’s simply striving to be the best version of itself. The visuals, audio, game design, scope, complexity, and the feel of the controls… oh, that feel!… Everything hits the mark perfectly, and the Switch 2 version of *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time* has become something I never expected… a “perfect game.”

*The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time* is a timeless remake that blends the charm and playfulness of the original with more accessible gameplay and stunning visuals. Its timeless charm remains undiminished; it reconstructs one of the most beautiful games ever made without compromising the magic of the 1998 original—in fact, it enhances it. With newly voiced dialogue, revamped dungeons, and fresh puzzles, Hyrule has never felt more alive.

I cannot pretend to be objective about *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time*. This game is one of the most important titles of my childhood—no, of my entire life. It demonstrated the potential of this medium at a time when the rules of video games were still being written, and it cemented my love for gaming. It’s impossible to play this game without being influenced by nostalgia; just like Link, I often felt as though I had returned to my childhood while playing. But even without such strong personal attachment, everyone is sure to be moved by this game. The modern *The Legend of Zelda* team has transformed one of the 1990s’ greatest masterpieces into one of the 2020s’ greatest masterpieces, turning us all into time travelers.

The praise heaped upon *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time* when it was first released was by no means misplaced. It remains one of the greatest games of all time and the pinnacle of the *Legend of Zelda* series. And with this beautiful, technically flawless, and thoughtfully updated version, a new generation will be able to fully savor Link’s greatest adventure. This marks a new pinnacle in game remakes, proving—without a single note out of place—that its melody will never fade.

It is human nature to pass down old stories, and I believe there is meaning in the very choice of which stories to retell. *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time* is not only an outstanding remake of a wonderful game but also a rich adventure that stands on its own. This remake proves that the traditional *The Legend of Zelda* formula still holds great value. The dense and intimate world of Hyrule is packed with charming characters and intriguing secrets. While the intricate dungeons offer a satisfying sense of discovery, their slightly simplified design has caused that special feeling of solving a puzzle to fade just a bit. Even so, the depth, quality, and attention to detail found throughout the game live up to the series’ stellar reputation.Whether you’ve played the original 100 times, played it just once back in 1998, or have never played it at all, I highly recommend this beautiful retelling of the legend.

I’m grateful this version exists. This game remains a masterpiece, and in many cases, its simplicity actually makes its brilliant ideas even more accessible. While playing, I found myself thinking time and again about just how far the medium of video games has come since the original *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time*. This game remains a towering tree of ideas to this day. …That said, I do wish the game itself had left a little more room for growth.

The remastered *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time* feels, above all else, as though it was made with new players in mind, showing a new generation the reasons we once fell in love with this game. In that regard, it succeeds brilliantly. Due to some of the design choices and direction taken in this remaster, I might not pick it up again right away.Still, *Ocarina of Time* is a classic story and remains a standout among all *The Legend of Zelda* titles. Despite its flaws, this remake clearly demonstrates why that is.
We’ve compiled the international Metacritic reviews for *The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time*, released on November 5, 2026, for the Nintendo Switch 2. As of this writing, the Metascore stands at 96 (based on 83 reviews).
Overall, the game has been highly praised for its modern reimagining—featuring revamped visuals, orchestral music, voice acting, and improved controls—all while preserving the structure and charm of the original. On the other hand, there also seem to be some critical opinions regarding the lack of new elements and surprises due to its faithfulness to the original, as well as the fact that while the game is now easier to play, the sense of tension in dungeon puzzles and combat has diminished somewhat.
*The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time* is currently available for the Nintendo Switch 2. The download version is priced at 7,980 yen, and the physical version at 8,980 yen.
