4X Strategy “Imperium” Debuts to “Positive” Reviews: Galaxy Conquest via Ships, Colonies, Diplomacy; 21 Races, 6 Victory Paths

Peace or Force: The Results Are Everything

PC Windows
"Imperium," a 4X strategy game where players aim to conquer the galaxy through ship design, colonial development, and diplomacy, has gotten off to a "strong start." It features 21 races and 6 victory conditions.

Petroff Games has released the 4X sci-fi strategy game *Imperium* on Steam.

Explore, expand, wage war, and engage in diplomacy—use every means at your disposal to become the ruler of the galaxy.

This single-player space 4X strategy game challenges you to build a galactic superpower from a single homeworld. With the positions of stars, planets, and hostile empires changing with every playthrough, you’ll need to make constant decisions—from choosing which trade routes to open and which colonies to establish to managing your relationships with other civilizations.

Explore a three-dimensional galaxy connected by interstellar routes, discover new star systems, and repeatedly colonize planets, moons, and asteroids to expand your territory. The need to allocate resources—deciding where, what, and how much to invest—that arises during this process is where the player’s skill truly shines.

Colonies are developed tile by tile, with players building out industries, research facilities, food production, defense installations, and orbital facilities. Players can either connect facilities to cultivate a highly specialized, productive planet or entrust operations to a governor and focus on strategic planning.

On the military front—which complements domestic affairs—you design spaceships for tactical combat from five hull classes, completing each vessel by selecting one engine, one power source, one sensor, one defense system, and one weapon. The strength of your fleet is determined not only by the number of ships but also by the quality of their design.

There are 21 distinct species in the game, each with unique strengths, personalities, and ambitions. Players allocate their influence toward diplomacy, governance, and intelligence to establish embassies, negotiate treaties and alliances, and gather intelligence. In addition to peaceful diplomacy, declaring war and demanding reparations upon victory is another option. It is entirely up to the player whether to gain support in the Galactic Senate to become Chancellor or to assume full authority—and accept the consequences—as Emperor.

Whether you aim for one of the six victory conditions—such as conquering enemy homeworlds, establishing territorial control, achieving permanent peace, or seizing power through the Galactic Senate—the path to victory is entirely in the player’s hands.

As of 11:00 PM on November 4—just one day after release—the game has received “Highly Rated” status with 82% positive reviews out of 23. Users have praised the game’s ease of use and graphics tailored to the playable races, while also citing the strategy sim *Ascendancy* as a comparable title.

The 4X sci-fi strategy game *Imperium* is available on Steam for PC for 3,150 yen. As part of a launch sale, it is on sale for 2,835 yen—a 10% discount—through November 17. A demo version is also available on the store page.
