The high-speed deduction action game *Super Danganronpa 2×2* is scheduled for release on January 14, 2027.

To coincide with the game’s exhibition at “Tokyo Game Show 2026,” a media conference was held featuring the game’s producer, Shohei Sakakibara, and director, Takahiro Suzuki.

We’ll be covering the game’s new “Kyoki Mode” scenario and the changes made from the original work!

“Kyoki Mode”: A New Storyline

This title features two modes: “Original Mode,” which includes the original story with revamped visuals and presentation, and “Kyoki Mode,” which unfolds a completely different story.

Of particular note is the new character, “Sakutaro Higashi.” He is voiced by Natsuki Hanae. What kind of “Super High School Level” ability does he possess, and how will he shine? Also, where exactly does he enter the “World 2” from…? Even this single new character is full of mysteries.

Sakutaro Higashi

In Kyoki Mode, Monokuma distributes “Kyoki” to the students at the very beginning of the story.I was able to play a portion of the beginning of Chapter 1, and I noticed some slight changes from the original version’s storyline. While the “Kyoki” aren’t visible in the early stages, just thinking about how they’ll alter the story’s later developments and reveal new sides of the characters—despite it being a “Kill or Be Killed” school trip—I can’t stop getting excited.

“Kyoki” are distributed to each cottage—and, of course, to Hinata as well…

New Graphics and Presentations

In this title, the characters’ visuals have been completely redrawn. Even illustrations that were previously limited to standard standing portraits on the field in the original game now show full-body views for each expression.

The vivid expressions of each newly redrawn character now animate in sync with their signature lines and memorable dialogue.

The music has also been newly arranged; in particular, the track played during “Counterarguments” features a Japanese-style arrangement similar to that in *V3*. It seems there are some tracks that can only be heard in Kyoki Mode, so those are definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

In the Original Mode trials, there were minor changes, such as pressing a button instead of slashing with the stick during rebuttals, and slight adjustments to the rules of “Flash Anagram (Revised).”

Kyoki Mode is set to “120%”

Next, we’ll present a Q&A session with Shohei Sakakibara and Takahiro Suzuki regarding this title.

――How does the content volume of this “Kyoki Mode” compare to the main game?

Shohei Sakakibara (hereinafter Sakakibara): Kyoki Mode is roughly 120% the size of the main game. We’ve made it at least as substantial as the original. Compared to Original Mode, Kyoki Mode offers a challenging experience right from the start. It’s packed with substantial content starting from Chapter 1.

――I believe the “Danganronpa” series has a chronological timeline—how does that play out in “Kyoki Mode”?

Sakakibara: The timeline for Kyoki Mode is on the same level as “2,” and things start to change right from the beginning. Please play through it to see for yourself.

――I imagine some new players might jump right into Kyoki Mode—would you not recommend that approach?

Sakakibara: Well, since this is a remake of “2,” it’s definitely better to be familiar with the original first. To be more specific, I’d really like players to start with the first game. We hold sales regularly, so please take advantage of those to play the original before diving into “2×2.”

――What about *V3* or *Danganronpa/Zero*...?

Takahiro Suzuki (hereinafter Suzuki): Well, that might spoil the fun of figuring things out for the players… (laughs). Just to clarify, the game is designed so that even first-time players can understand the story when playing Kyoki Mode. Of course, we assume you’ll enjoy it more if you’ve played the first and second games, but it’s not designed to be completely incomprehensible to newcomers.

――Could you tell us if there are any specific changes you made in terms of presentation?

Suzuki: We’ve added character animations this time, so I think the fact that they “move” is one of the game’s attractions. The trial sequences have also been enhanced, so I think those will be quite a sight to behold.

――Were new voice recordings made for Kyoki Mode as well?

Sakakibara: This time, we’ve re-recorded everything—not just for Kyoki Mode, but for the original version as well.

Suzuki: For the original version, we asked the voice actors to stick to the source material, but some of them have added their own unique interpretations this time around, so I think players will enjoy discovering those differences as well.

Sakakibara: We asked Wasabi Mizuta to voice Monokuma, and it turns out she was actually a junior to TARAKO. TARAKO was the second-generation Monokuma, and she started out on stage. Since Mizuta had attended those stage performances, she had a personal connection to the role and gladly accepted the offer.

――In the original game, many players found the “Logical Dive” segments during trials to become increasingly difficult as they progressed. Have you made those sections easier in this adaptation?

Suzuki: We’re aware of those comments, and we’ve added “easy courses” and other measures to help players with the Logical Dives and similar challenges. However, in Kyoki Mode, we’ve introduced a “Madness” difficulty level beyond the standard “Easy,” “Normal,” and “Tough” settings, so the overall difficulty—including the deductive challenges—is quite high.

――Regarding Hinata’s skills, are they different in Original Mode and Kyoki Mode?

Suzuki: The skills are the same. So, if you play through Original Mode first and then start Kyoki Mode, your skills will carry over. Since both modes are contained within a single save file, even if you switch to Kyoki Mode midway through Original Mode, your skills will carry over.

――Does the location of the Hidden Monokuma change between the original story and Original Mode?

Suzuki: Yes, they have.

Sakakibara: Since the maps have changed, there are some areas where adjustments have been made to match those changes.

――Thank you very much!
