The “Tokyo Game Show 2026” was held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture for five days, from September 17 to 21, 2026 (on the 21st, the on-site event was canceled, and only a live-streamed event took place). This year’s game show was once again a huge success, featuring a wide variety of exhibits and events.

At the Edia booth, playable demos of *Tou Shinden COLLECTION (tentative title)* and *Saikyo Memories (tentative title)* were available.

Featuring *Toshinden*, which was originally released as a 3D competitive fighting game,“Tou Shinden COLLECTION” (tentative title) features the first game in the series, “Tou Shinden,” while “Saikyo Memories” (tentative title)—which compiles the shooting games that defined the 1990s arcade scene—featured a playable demo of “Strikers 1945.”

In this article, we’ll bring you play reports on these two titles from the Edia booth!

"Strikers 1945": Simple Fun

“Strikers 1945,” which we were able to play as a demo from “Saikyō Memories (tentative title),” first debuted in arcades in 1995.The game depicts the exploits of the “Strikers,” a special forces unit assembled from fighter planes and pilots active at the time to combat a mysterious organization that rose up immediately after the end of World War II.

There are six types of fighter planes available—including the Messerschmitt, Zero, and Spitfire—each with its own distinct attack style. The controls consist of just two buttons: one for shots and one for bombs. Collecting power-up items increases your escort fleet, and you can unleash special attacks with charged shots.

The simple, accessible rules, the difficulty that steadily increases, and the unique weapons—such as the distinctive robots that appear in each stage—are undeniably appealing, and this version ran smoothly as well. At the demo booth, many people stopped to take a look, and I even saw some getting completely absorbed in the game.

Although this time I only got to try out “Strikers 1945,” I’m definitely curious about the announcement of future titles to be included!

"Tou Shinden" Returns in the Reiwa Era!

“Tōshinden COLLECTION (tentative title)” includes three titles: “Tōshinden,” “Tōshinden 2,” and “Tōshinden 3.” The demo available at the event featured the first game in the series, “Tōshinden,” released in 1995, and players were free to enjoy matches and more.

*Tou Shinden* is a 3D versus fighting game with command-based special moves. One of its standout features is the “side roll” system for lateral movement, which allows for various tactical maneuvers—such as dodging enemy projectiles or shifting your position to launch attacks. The game also includes a feature that lets you perform certain special moves with a single button press.

With weak and strong attacks using weapons and kicks, and the ability to deal increased damage by attacking from behind, the interplay between attacks and positioning was crucial. Every character has their own unique weapon, and each excels at different types of combat. There’s also a “Secret Special Move” system that can only be used when health is low, giving the game the feel of a fusion between 3D and 2D fighting games.

During this hands-on session, I played as the protagonist, Eiji, as well as popular characters like Elis and the spear-wielding Mondo. Who would have thought the day would come in the Reiwa era when we could play as Elis…!

You can even view the original manual within the game, so it’s easy to check and execute special move commands.

I was delighted by the crisp visuals optimized for current-generation consoles, and the controls felt smooth and responsive, which made me eager to play other titles in the series as well.

At the Edia booth, they were showcasing not only *Saikyo Memories* (tentative title) and *Toshinden COLLECTION* (tentative title), but also *Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes I & II* (tentative title) and *SUPER Yanoman COLLECTION*.The demo stations were constantly full, which really drove home just how significant the re-releases of these classic titles are.

The booth also featured a display of rare packaging from the many game titles Edia has re-released to date. Additionally, in the section where visitors could write down and post the titles they’d like to see re-released, a truly diverse range of titles was listed. It was fun just looking at that wall!
