I’m prone to motion sickness when playing video games, so taking motion sickness medication is a must before playing 3D action games with intense movements or VR games that involve a lot of movement. Naturally, I also suffer from severe motion sickness when traveling, so whenever I’m on a long car or train ride, I always take motion sickness medication before heading out.
However, this time I forgot to take my motion sickness medication, so I was desperately trying to tough it out on the Shinkansen to Tokyo.
◆A Lifesaver for Those Prone to 3D Motion Sickness: Motion Sickness Relief Assist! Introducing Booths Beyond Gaming
This time, instead of my usual game reviews… I’m going to introduce some slightly unusual things I came across at the Tokyo Game Show 2026.
I get motion sickness easily when playing 3D games—so much so that I usually take motion sickness medication. When I heard there was something I couldn’t miss, I headed straight to the I-O Data booth.

To begin with, 3D motion sickness is said to be caused by a mismatch between visual perception and physical sensation—specifically, the discrepancy between moving around on the screen and remaining completely still in reality.
That’s where I-O Data’s Motion Sickness Reduction Assist comes in! This is a feature built into the “GigaCrysta” gaming monitor that helps reduce 3D motion sickness.

By displaying a stationary marker on the game screen, it creates a reference point for your gaze, which apparently helps minimize the discrepancy between what you see and how your body feels caused by on-screen movement. They had a game prepared that’s known to cause motion sickness, so I tried playing it with the assist feature both on and off.

First, I played for about 10 minutes with the assist turned off. It’s a cooking simulator, but there are many scenes where you move around the shop in detail, so it’s definitely prone to causing motion sickness. I wouldn’t want to go to a restaurant where the owner looks like he’s about to throw up while cooking.

Next, I played with the feature turned on. It felt like the 3D motion sickness—which had been chipping away at my HP like a poison status effect—stopped completely… or so it seemed. Even the shop owner’s complexion, as he shaped rice balls, looked somewhat better.

There are three types of on-screen markers provided by the motion sickness reduction assist, and you can adjust the opacity of each one. A red line fills the entire screen, but when I made it fainter, I could play without it bothering me much.
You can also adjust the position and size of the display, so it’s useful even when you’re not playing yourself—like when watching live gameplay streams.
The motion sickness relief feature I tested is a function included in I-O Data’s “GigaCrysta LCD-GD243UD” series of gaming monitors. If you already own one of these models, you can enable it by updating the firmware. It works not only with PC games but also with home consoles like the PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
According to the company’s testing, 20 out of 30 people (67%) who experienced motion sickness reported that the motion sickness reduction assist “reduced their motion sickness.” I experienced it myself and could feel the effect, so if you’re bothered by 3D motion sickness like I am, it’s definitely worth a try.
Next, let’s take a look at some of the non-gaming booths.

I was delighted to find that the GRAPHT merchandise booth carries goods not only for major titles like *Street Fighter 6* and the *Persona* series, but also for indie titles like *Molten Iron Marfushia* and nostalgic classics like *Arc the Lad*.

And best of all, they’re selling merchandise for *Go for It, Juri-chan*, which I absolutely love. By the way, what I was wearing that day was the “Gouki Nyan T-shirt,” one of the Juri-chan items.

At the KONAMI booth, Runacchi☆Hoshi greeted us in a *Cotton* cosplay. I’ve met her many times at other events, and she cheerfully said, “Go ahead and take a picture!” so I took her up on her offer and snapped a shot!
That’s right—I’m the type who wants to take photos of cosplayers but is too shy to actually do it!

At the Suzuki booth, they had the “GSX-8R Tuned by JURI”—a large motorcycle modeled after Juri from *Street Fighter 6*—on display, and I even got to straddle it and take a photo!
This time, I introduced booths other than the game demo areas. There were plenty of non-demo booths as well, including photo booths where you could take commemorative photos with your favorite characters and various vehicles. This is one of the real joys of in-person gaming events!
