The TESRenewal modding group isreported on its official X account that it is experiencing issues with a former volunteer who has left the project regarding “Skyblivion,” a mod that remakes *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion* using the *The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim* engine.

The conflict centers on the decompilation of the mod’s source code. The group has appealed to the community to “avoid a witch hunt.”

This mod recreates *Oblivion*’s maps, quests, characters, and more within *Skyrim*, and has been in development for over 10 years. In December 2025, the group announced that the release, originally scheduled for 2025, had been postponed to 2026.In September 2026, with the release approaching, the team also began recruiting volunteers to produce videos such as trailers and developer interviews.

According to the statement, the conflict began when the team decompiled some of the work produced by former volunteers. The team explained that this was a necessary measure to maintain the existing system and fix bugs, as their access to the original source code had been revoked.

Subsequently, the former volunteers reportedly began hinting at legal action and even demanded the disclosure of the team leaders’ real names and home addresses. The team considers this an excessive demand. Furthermore, after consulting with a lawyer, the team stated that while they are confident in their right to maintain the code, they deleted the relevant code and rebuilt the system from scratch to avoid conflict.

However, they report that threats from the former volunteers have continued since then. The team is also calling on the community to refrain from personal attacks resembling a “witch hunt.”

Will This Affect the 2026 Release? The Team Emphasizes That Work Is Continuing

A key concern is the impact on the release scheduled for 2026. In a follow-up post, the team stated that they are continuing work toward the release and will share updated information about the planned release soon.

They acknowledge that this announcement is not what fans were hoping for and express their gratitude for everyone’s consideration regarding this sensitive situation. The team is also recruiting volunteers with legal expertise via their official website and notes that, due to the ongoing legal issues, they may not be able to answer all questions.

The “Skyblivion” mod is scheduled for release in 2026. A specific date has not yet been announced.
