"Can't Order GPUs or Memory": GeForce RTX 5090—NVIDIA Denies Ending Production, but Supply Shortages Persist

According to the German tech media outlet HardwareLuxx, AIBs are reportedly unable to order either the GPU or memory for NVIDIA’s flagship consumer GPU, the “GeForce RTX 5090.”

Although rumors of a production discontinuation were officially denied at one point, AIBs state, “We cannot order either the GPU or the memory, and it is unclear whether reorders will be possible.”

According to an anonymous AIB source, “Although we have not received any notification that the product has reached end-of-life (EOL), it is currently impossible to obtain the GB202 chip and 32GB of GDDR7 memory as a complete set.”

The report states that “it is unclear whether orders will be possible again in the future,” adding, “Similar supply bottlenecks have occurred several times in the past, but NVIDIA has always provided the option to reorder. However, that is currently impossible.”

Additionally, a supplier providing coolers to board partners stated, “While there may be variations in GPU allocations among individual partners, from our perspective, order forecasts are trending downward,” and“Two of our partners have significantly reduced their order volumes for RTX 5090-based cooling components for the first quarter of 2027, representing a substantial decrease compared to the third quarter of 2026.Furthermore, as of the second quarter of 2027, there have been no orders for cooling components for the RTX 5090 model,” indicating that related component manufacturers also expect production volumes to decline significantly in the future.

Around October 10, reports based on information from a leaker claimed that production of the RTX 5090 series—including the D-model for the Chinese market—had ended, and that the GeForce RTX 5080, featuring 24GB of VRAM, would be offered as a replacement; however, NVIDIA has categorically denied this.

Jeff Fisher, a division head at NVIDIA, stated, “While there are certainly supply chain constraints, NVIDIA is doing everything it can to bring products to market.“There are other variations of the RTX 5090 chip, but production has not ceased, and NVIDIA will continue to ship them,” he said. Additionally, Roman Hartung, the creator of the tech YouTube channel known as der8auer, reported receiving a similar response from NVIDIA and sources within its supply chain.

Prices for various PC components continue to soar, with graphics cards and memory seeing particularly sharp increases; in the case of the GeForce RTX 5090, some models are even priced as high as 1.85 million yen. What does the future hold for this top-of-the-line GPU, the envy of PC gamers?
