THQ Nordic Japan has announced the release of the first free update, “Feature Update #1,” for the action RPG *Gothic 1 Remake*.
Adds Photo Mode and the familiar official cheat "Marvin Mode"
This title is a full remake of the RPG *Gothic*, originally released in 2001.
This update adds a Photo Mode that lets you capture moments from your adventures in the colony. You can activate it via the pose menu or by pressing the L key (PC version), and use a variety of shooting options to capture landscapes and characters in a shot that suits your taste.
The official “Marvin Mode”—a familiar feature to series fans—has also been implemented. In addition to unlocking doors and teleporting, it allows for various actions such as spawning items, characters, and creatures.According to Steam News, you can enable it by pressing the Esc key, typing “MARVIN,” and pressing Esc again; to disable it, press Esc and type “42.”
Additionally, you can now change the hairstyle and tattoos of the protagonist, the “Nameless Hero.”
Other improvements include the addition of a feature that lets you sit on a bench and wait for time to pass, performance enhancements for crafted weapons, and the addition of sound-based reactions. The update also includes numerous bug fixes related to gameplay and chapter quests, such as a fix for a glitch that occurred when equipping two of the same ring and a fix for journal entries that weren’t unlocked correctly.
Phase 1 of Mod Support Launches in Beta
Steam News also announced the release of “Modkit BETA,” the first phase of mod support.
This involves releasing the specifications for the scripting language and providing the complete set of script sources for the game; mods created using these tools can be shared on the official Steam Workshop. The mod management screen can be accessed via Steam’s launch options. While the release date for additional mod tools remains undecided, the development team states that they are still working on several ideas.
In addition, Steam is currently running a sale on the *Gothic* series through November 6.
*Gothic 1 Remake* is available for 4,867 yen, a 25% discount. Other titles in the series (excluding the latest release) are on sale for 80% off, and the “ArcaniA + Gothic Pack”—a bundle of six older titles—is currently available for 1,100 yen, also at an 80% discount.

*Gothic 1 Remake* is now available for PC (Steam) and XBOX Series X|S. The Steam version is priced at 6,490 yen, and until November 6, it can be purchased at a 25% discount for 4,867 yen. The PS5 version (Japanese digital download) is scheduled for release on November 24, 2026.
