Regarding the animated film adaptation of FromSoftware’s action RPG *Bloodborne*, producer Sean McLoughlin revealed new details in an interview with IGN.

Producer Reveals Production Progress for the First Time

The announcement of the *Bloodborne* anime film adaptation and McLoughlin’s appointment as producer—known as “jacksepticeye,” a YouTuber with 31.1 million subscribers—was made in April 2026.Game*Spark also reported on his enthusiasm for the project, noting that he called it “the biggest event of my career” and expressed his determination to “pour my heart and soul into making this the best possible work.”

Although more than six months have passed since the film adaptation was announced, neither the screenwriter nor the director had been decided until now; however, in this interview, both roles have been confirmed. IGN reports that the producer explicitly stated that production is proceeding smoothly.

However, the names of the screenwriter and director are still being kept under wraps, and the timing of the announcement of further details has not yet been determined.McLoughlin simply stated, “As a ‘Bloodborne’ fan, I’d love to tell you everything, but that would dampen the anticipation. I hope we can announce who’s involved, future developments, story hints, and production progress before too long.”

He also addressed the inevitable topic of comparisons with the live-action “Elden Ring” film being produced by A24. It was recently reported that the live-action “Elden Ring” is likely to be a major production with a script exceeding 180 pages and a runtime of nearly three hours, and that the production budget could reach close to $200 million.

“There are many things that are impossible in live-action but can be expressed through animation. I believe *Bloodborne*, with its strong fantasy elements, has particular potential to be realized very effectively. If we can create overwhelming, dynamic scenes with the unique power of animation, the result should be truly impressive,” he said, discussing the differences in visual expression between the two works.

McLoughlin also noted that while the structures of *Bloodborne* and *ELDEN RING* are similar, their stories are completely different.Since there’s a possibility that the live-action “ELDEN RING” will be released first—and while he might consider it after seeing that—he revealed that he doesn’t want to be overly influenced by it and ultimately hopes to “deliver something interesting that people wouldn’t expect.”

Regarding adapting a game—a completely different medium—into a film, he said, “I have absolutely no interest in simply recreating the game’s scenario with the same characters.“What makes a movie better than a game? I’m thinking about how to leverage those differences and incorporate new ideas,” he said, adding, “I want to find a new story that expands the universe, like the ‘Fallout’ series or the recent ‘Resident Evil’ movies.”

As jacksepticeye, he has also just been confirmed to appear as an “Elusive Target” in *Hitman*

Though he has spoken of being a huge fan of *Bloodborne*, it’s worth noting that he has also just been confirmed to appear as an “Elusive Target” in the stealth-action game *Hitman*. With adaptations of games like *Resident Evil* and *Street Fighter* generating a lot of buzz, it will be interesting to see what kind of style this gaming enthusiast brings to his work.

The release date for the animated film adaptation of “Bloodborne” has not yet been announced.
