Funcom, the Norwegian developer known for *Conan Exiles*, has announced that it will implement offline single-player mode in November for the open-world action-adventure game *Dune: Awakening*.

Freedom from the requirement for a constant online connection, even in single-player mode

Unlike the developer’s previous title, *Conan Exiles*, this game was released as an online-only title.

While solo play was possible from the start in a world shared with other players, the game subsequently saw the implementation of full-fledged single-player mode, followed by announcements regarding offline support and ongoing improvements to the game’s specifications. Below is a timeline of these developments.

The Evolution of *Dune: Awakening* from an Online-Only Title to the Announcement of Offline Support

  • June 2025 (at launch): Released directly as a full product. It was an online-only title, with no plans for offline support at this time.

  • June 2026: Plans to implement single-player mode were announced. This was in response to what was reportedly the most frequent request from players since the game’s launch. However, the game still required an online connection, and no explicit commitment to offline support was made.

  • September 2026: A full-fledged single-player mode was implemented, featuring detailed adjustments to the game rules to ensure an experience on par with multiplayer. An online connection was still required immediately upon launching the game and during character creation, but the developers announced plans to remove this requirement.

  • October 30, 2026: The release of a fully offline single-player mode was announced for November.

Please note that while offline single-player mode is scheduled to be available starting in November 2026, players will need to wait until January 2027 to use their existing multiplayer character data in single-player mode.

Future Plans Focused on Single-Player Mode

  • November 2026—Offline single-player mode implemented (allowing the game to be played entirely offline)

  • January 2027—Character copy feature implemented (Allows players to copy characters raised in existing online multiplayer to single-player mode. Partial support for the reverse is also available.)

  • January 2027—Full cross-platform play support (All players will be able to play together seamlessly across all supported platforms)

Free Expansion “Blood and Ice” Set for Release on December 1

The free expansion—previously teased as featuring a new story, resources, and crafting on the “Polar Sink” map, set in a frigid region and consisting of two biomes—has now been officially titled “Blood and Ice.”In addition to offering 35 hours of gameplay, the expansion will reportedly introduce new vehicle modules, augmentations, and specializations. It is scheduled for release on December 1, 2026, and will be available simultaneously on all supported platforms, including the recently released PS5 version.

Content Updates to Continue in 2027
