In light of reports that Arkane Studios—a French game development studio known for titles such as 『Dishonored』—is facing the prospect of being sold or shut down due to Microsoft’s Xbox restructuring, overseas media outlets including PC Gamer have reported that the deadline for negotiations regarding the studio’s acquisition, originally set for November 13, 2026, has been extended by one month.

It was reported back in July 2026 that Arkane Studios was among the studios targeted by Xbox’s restructuring plan. However, according to the French media outlet Le Monde, the “Florange Law” mandates that companies in France with 1,000 or more employees must spend three months seeking a buyer when closing a facility. In accordance with this law, Arkane Lyon—the studio based in Lyon—was scheduled to continue searching for a buyer until November 13.

According to this report by PC Gamer, the French organizations Printemps Écologique and the Video Game Workers’ Union (STJV) had requested an extension of the November deadline to allow them to continue searching for a buyer for Arkane Studios, and it is reported that this extension was granted.

A Microsoft spokesperson told PC Gamer, “We have extended the consultation period by another month to explore various options.” Regarding documents that reportedly mentioned closing the studio if a buyer could not be found, the spokesperson stated, “These are part of the necessary consultation process and do not indicate a final decision.”

Consequently, it appears the negotiation period has been extended until December 13.

Let me share some positive news for a change: Despite all the gloomy headlines today, my understanding is that there are multiple paths actively being explored that would save Arkane Lyon. Anything can happen during negotiations, but at this point I’d be surprised if the studio is shut down.

Additionally, according to renowned game journalist Jason Schreier, multiple avenues are being explored to ensure Arkane Lyon’s survival. On October 24—before the extension of the negotiation deadline was reported—he stated that it would actually be surprising if the studio were to close at this point.
