"SmaMate," an unofficial web service designed to facilitate matches and social interaction within the *Super Smash Bros.* series, has announced that it will cease operations on October 25, 2026.

Difficulty in Continuing as a “Hobby”

The reasons for the service termination are outlined in an announcement on the official website. First, the announcement explains that “SumaMate” was originally developed in 2014 as a hobby, but as the site has been operated over the long term, the creator’s primary occupation and circumstances have changed, resulting in less time available for both gameplay and the operation and management of the site.

Furthermore, the notice states that the environment has become one that demands sudden and rapid improvements due to the increasing sophistication and frequency of AI-driven cyberattacks in recent years, and while the recent “PHP2SHELL” vulnerability has been addressed, it is uncertain whether I would be able to respond in the same way should a similar incident occur in the future. Based on these factors and my current circumstances, I have determined that it is difficult to continue operating the site responsibly as a personal “hobby.”

All pages will be inaccessible starting October 26

The announcement also includes the future schedule and a Q&A section. The [36th Rating Match] will end at 11:00 PM on October 24, and the service will terminate (with all pages taken down) at 11:59 PM on October 25; it appears that all pages will become inaccessible starting October 26.

Additionally, the notice states that if a similar service is developed or operated in the future, the name and logo of “SumaMate” will not be used to clearly inform users that the operator is different. However, it appears to be acceptable to introduce such a service by describing it as “a service like SumaMate.”
