On October 23, Square Enix released the Steam version of *Final Fantasy Resonance*. Released one day after the versions for other platforms, the game has earned a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 95% of user reviews being positive. It has recorded a peak of 20,319 concurrent players (SteamDB).
An evolved Final Fantasy that retains its pixel art style. Turn-based battles and stunning visuals have been well-received.
This title is a one-time purchase RPG rebuilt based on Season 1 of the smartphone game *Final Fantasy Brave Exvius* (FFBE).
Set in a world rendered in HD-2D, players can enjoy turn-based command battles, a job system, and exploration via airships. The game employs “Cinematic Pixel”—pixelated 3DCG—for event scenes, while 3D graphics are used for certain special moves and summon creature animations. Visuals that combine multiple styles are another key feature.

In Steam user reviews, the turn-based command battles and the adventure reminiscent of earlier entries in the series have been well-received. Players have expressed delight at the return of classic JRPG fun, with comments such as, “This is the Final Fantasy I’ve been waiting for.”

The visuals and music have also been well-received, with many praising the beauty of the HD-2D graphics and the soundtrack that complements them. Some Japanese reviews have described the presentation as “the culmination of HD-2D technology honed in games like *Octola*.”

Users who played *FFBE* have also expressed delight at reuniting with characters like Rain, Raswell, Fina, and Rido. Even a user who played the game for about eight years—until the global service ended in 2024—welcomed their return.

Game*Spark’s review awarded the game a score of 9 out of 10. The review praised not only the world rendered in HD-2D but also the command-based battle system—which requires players to strategize the order in which to break enemies’ defenses—and the ability to customize character development and combat strategies by combining Visions.
The game has also received high praise from international media, with HardZone awarding it a perfect 100 and Wccftech giving it a 95. They laud the game for distilling the series’ appeal into a single adventure and for its quality, which could serve as a new starting point for the series.
*Final Fantasy Resonance* is now available for PC (Steam/Microsoft Store), Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S. The Standard Edition is 7,678 yen, the Digital Deluxe Edition is 9,878 yen, and the Collector’s Edition is 25,500 yen.
