NetEase Games has released "The Forbidden Island," a major update for the free-to-play open-world survival game *Once Human*, available on PC, iOS, Android, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S.
Glowing eyes, flowers on the water’s surface, moving islands, and more… A journey filled with mystery and adventure across a living ocean
Set in a world teeming with supernatural phenomena, this multiplayer open-world survival game challenges players to survive. The major update, “The Forbidden Island,” expands the playable area beyond just the islands to include the open sea and even the deep ocean, allowing players to enjoy a voyage filled with mystery and adventure set against the backdrop of the sea—a living, breathing entity.
The trailer introduces five threats that players will face based on the “Six Rules” recorded in a diary—rules that serve as the key to the story and lure players out to sea.It is said that the five sea regions indicated by each rule—such as a lighthouse gazing at the player with glowing eyes, flowers blooming on the water’s surface, and a moving island—lead to an even greater mystery.
One of the update’s key features is a highly flexible shipbuilding system. By freely combining parts such as the hull, bow, and deck, players can build everything from small sailing ships to massive mobile sea bases known as “Sea Fortresses.”
Players who set sail from “Cape of the Fragrant Wind,” the starting point, will explore the following four sea regions:
Cursed Mist: A thick fog that obscures visibility and lowers the surrounding temperature.
Black Tide: An anomalous phenomenon where Stardust contamination spreads, threatening players’ sanity.
Time Rain: A special rain that accelerates the wear and tear of equipment and the depletion of supplies, while also promoting the growth of crops and animals.
Celestial Fire Stones: Meteorites that rain down on volcanic regions, bringing intense heat and destruction to the surrounding area.
