On October 22, Devolver Digital announced *Serious Sam: The Third Encounter*, the latest entry in the *Serious Sam* series developed by Croteam.
The protagonist, Sam, goes on a rampage on an alien planet!
This action FPS is the latest entry in the *Serious Sam* series, where players mow down hordes of enemies left and right.
The story picks up immediately after *The Second Encounter* (released in 2002), the sequel to the series’ first game, *Serious Sam: The First Encounter* (released in 2001).Set against the backdrop of alien fortresses and harsh landscapes, a new battle begins as Sam “Serious” Stone of the Earth Defense Force storms the heart of his arch-enemy, the Mental Army.
Note that within the series, *Serious Sam 3: BFE* (released in 2011) serves as a prequel to *The First Encounter*, while *Serious Sam 4* (released in 2020) depicts events that took place even before *Serious Sam 3*.
In the latest installment’s combat, new weapons join familiar favorites like the minigun. Players can enjoy arcade-style action against hordes of enemies not only in solo play but also in co-op mode with friends.
Additionally, the most recent entry in the series, *Serious Sam: Shatterverse*—a co-op roguelike FPS for up to five players developed by Behaviour Interactive—was released for PC and consoles on September 1, 2026.
"Serious Sam: The Third Encounter" is scheduled for release on PC (Steam). It will also support Japanese.
