On October 21, 2026, Asha Sharma, CEO of Xbox, and Scott Van Vliet, CTO, published a video online showcasing the “Blade” interface and various other interfaces once used on the Xbox 360 in action, as experimental results from the new organization “Xbox Labs.”
“XBOX LABS,” which aims to conduct various experiments—are we already seeing results?

“Xbox Labs” is a new Xbox organization whose formation was announced on October 14.The organization is described as a small group of game developers, engineers, and scientists dedicated to bringing new ideas to life through hands-on experiences. It cites the recent trend of “game reconstruction”—where games are “unauthorized ports” to other platforms or modified via mods—as the impetus behind its formation.
In the recently released video, you can see how historic Xbox 360 interfaces—including the “Blade” interface—have been “ported” to a web browser. Naturally, since the Xbox 360 is Microsoft’s own asset, it is assumed that the rights issues associated with this “port” have been resolved.
The “Blade” interface was released as a background theme for the Xbox Series X|S in 2024 (see: IGN), but while that version was essentially just a background image, this new video clearly shows the “Blade” interface moving smoothly from side to side.
It remains unclear whether the game will actually be playable from this point onward, but depending on the outcome of this effort, it might even be possible for the Xbox 360 to make a comeback—albeit within a web browser.
