Jun Maeda (Key), “Kanon”/“Little Busters!” creator, reveals throat cancer; wrote story & music for “Heaven Burns Red” through Ch.6

I have finished writing my assigned portions up to the first half of Chapter 6 of the main story, and I have also written all the major parts of the story leading up to the conclusion of Chapter 6.

Visual Arts/Key announced that Jun Maeda, an executive officer and creator at the company, has been diagnosed with throat cancer.

He is currently working on the scenario and music for *Heaven Burns Red*

Mr. Maeda is currently responsible for writing the scenario and composing the music for the dramatic RPG *Heaven Burns Red*, which is currently in service. In the past, he wrote the scenario and composed the music for *ONE ~Toward the Shining Season~*, and since the establishment of the Key brand, he has worked on numerous titles such as *Kanon*, *Air*, *CLANNAD*, and *Little Busters!*.

Key’s development team announced on X: “Maeda has been experiencing discomfort in his throat since early this spring, and this summer, he began to feel severe swelling and pain.Following a thorough medical examination, he was diagnosed with pharyngeal cancer.” The statement continued: “After carefully considering his condition and treatment options, and out of a desire to conserve his strength and devote himself to his creative work, he has chosen to focus on palliative care rather than undergo active treatment.”

Regarding future creative activities, it was reported that for *Heaven Burns Red*, he has completed writing his assigned portions up to the first half of Chapter 6 of the main story; he has also written all the major parts of the story leading up to the conclusion of Chapter 6; and regarding the music, he has finished writing the lyrics and composing the music for the first half of Chapter 6.Additionally, it was reported that “regarding scenarios and music other than those mentioned above, there is a possibility that Maeda himself will be unable to participate due to the progression of his illness.”

Regarding the music project he had been planning as a new challenge, he announced: “Feeling that I do not have much time left to devote to production, I have changed my plan to quickly complete the songs I am currently conceptualizing and deliver them to our fans. At his strong request, these will be released sequentially on YouTube going forward.”
