The browser game “1 in 8 Billion,” operated by Jin’s Earth, went viral on social media after its release on October 5, and has since become a hot topic as numerous games inspired by it have emerged.

Game Creators, People in Japan, All Life on Earth—Life Comes in Many Forms

“1 in 8 Billion” is a browser game developed by Jin Hwi-eus using AI. Set in a world recreated based on statistical data published by organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank, and the WHO, players experience life as a random person born in a random country. It previously gained attention when Yuji Horii shared his gameplay results on X.

An example of a life played: Living as an engineer in Sudan, dying at age 87.

A series of follow-up titles to “1 in 8 Billion” are appearing one after another and generating a lot of buzz. This one is “The Life of 50,000 Game Creators.” As the name suggests, you take on the role of a game creator and make life decisions at key turning points.

It’s meticulously crafted down to the smallest details—for example, the UI changes to reflect the design of each era as the years pass. Another highlight is that you can learn about the history of the gaming industry, such as the release of the original PlayStation.

This is the Japanese version of “1 in 8 Billion”: “1 in 120 Million.” Your birthplace is determined based on birth rate statistics for each prefecture.

You’re not limited to choosing a human life. There’s also “Probability of Being Born Human,” where one life is selected from among all animals on Earth (the probability of becoming human is 1 in 101.1 billion).

It’s an extremely harsh world where there’s an approximately 86% chance of becoming a nematode, a 12% chance of becoming a copepod (a microscopic crustacean), and only within the remaining 2% are other insects or animals selected.

There are no choices to be made; we simply watch to see if they can leave descendants or even survive at all. Since most lives are spent as insects, surviving for even a month is considered a long life—and if you’re unlucky, you might be discovered by a predator on the very day you’re born.

There’s also a mode where only mammals are selected. In this mode, there’s a 1 in 16 chance of being chosen as a human.

There are also titles like the ones listed below, and the trend of fan-made games inspired by *1 in 8 Billion* shows no signs of slowing down.
