A “tier list” ranking games the user has played by genre is trending on social media.
Is a “Tier List” Boom for Video Games Here?
"Tier lists" are rankings that independently evaluate the performance of in-game weapons and items, or identify the strongest characters in the meta of competitive games by season. Currently, on social media, lists created by players that focus on specific genres of games they’ve played are gaining attention.
You can find a variety of tier lists—such as “Open-World Game Tier Lists” and “Horror Game Tier Lists” (from X search results)—though the rankings are likely to vary widely depending on the player’s generation and personal preferences.
It might be fun to think about how you’d rank them yourself, but there are also tools available to help you create these tier lists. For example, “TierMaker” lets you create your own using images you provide, and you can also use templates shared by other users—you can even search for themes using game-related categories or the site’s internal search function.

Furthermore, a PC (Steam) party game called “Let’s Make a Tier List Together!” has been released, which not only lets you create tier lists but also incorporates them into gameplay. In this game, other participants try to guess the tier list created by the “host” player based on a given theme. A demo version is currently available, so why not give it a try? (The full version is scheduled for release in November 2026.)
