The free “Luminance” update, coming in December, will serve as the prologue
The “Trampled Wasteland” chapter concludes “Kuldra’s Saga,” and following that, the free update “Luminance” will be released in December 2026.This content serves as the prologue to the “Blood Crystal Saga” scheduled for 2027. The release window has been announced as December, but a specific date has not been revealed.

The story is set in a world following the defeat of Kuldra, the Dragon Queen. Players will come to the aid of Ceridwen, an elf, and her child as they flee from the bounty hunter Morwyn.
On the gameplay side, new music-based mechanics using the Lyre and Songstones will be introduced. It is said that using Fairy Rings will allow players to travel to hidden areas throughout Ashenfall.
A new skill called “Prayer” will also be implemented. This system allows players to level up by performing ritualistic actions—such as setting up altars at their strongholds, burning incense, or burying bones. A key feature is that it has been designed as a system distinct from those in *RuneScape* and *Old School RuneScape*.

In addition, elf-themed character customization options, weapon and armor sets, new NPCs, story content, and Prifddinas-style building components will be added.
The 2027 Major Update: “Blood Crystal Saga”
“Blood Crystal Saga” is a major story update scheduled for release in 2027. It will feature adventures in new areas through two story arcs: “Song of Rebellion” and “Crown of Night.” Release dates for each update have not yet been specified individually.
Join Forces with the Rebel Elves in “Song of Rebellion”
“Song of Rebellion” is the opening story of the “Blood Crystal Saga.” To counter the Nos Clan, which has been expanding its influence following Kuldra’s death, players will join forces with the rebel elves. You’ll visit Ailddinas, an elven city corrupted by the Nos Clan, and uncover a dangerous secret involving dragons.
In addition to Ailddinas being added as a new area, familiar creatures from the *RuneScape* series—such as Kebbits, Implings, and Moss Giants—will also make an appearance. A new hunting system featuring trap-setting, tracking, and capture will be introduced. The new “Hunter” skill is also scheduled for implementation.

A Full-Scale Showdown with the Nos Clan in “Crown of Night”
In “Crown of Night,” players will use the power of Seren’s light to take on the Nos Clan in an all-out confrontation. The action takes place along the coast and in the hills of Ashenfall, where players will face the threat of the Nos Clan as it continues to expand its influence.
Weapons familiar to the *RuneScape* series, such as the Dark Bow and the Ivandis Flail, will also make an appearance. New legendary weapons and armor will be added as well.

Upon closer examination, the structure—which bridges the prologue, “Luminance,” to a major saga—suggests a design intended to build the story over the course of years. It’s noteworthy that Dragonwilds is positioned not as a one-off expansion but as a title intended for ongoing operation.
Monthly Free Updates and Mod Support
Starting in 2027, in addition to major story updates, free monthly updates are scheduled to be released. These will include the addition of quests and new activities, balance adjustments, and quality-of-life improvements. Several new skills are scheduled to be implemented during 2027; currently, two have been announced: “Hunter” and “Slayer.”
Regarding mods, it was announced that official support will be introduced in 2027. In addition to dedicated mod creation tools, features allowing players to browse and install mods directly within the game will be introduced. This is scheduled for implementation on all platforms, including consoles. Specific release dates and details regarding the supported tools were not provided in this announcement.
