modyfikatorcasper, who specializes in repairing consoles and controllers, revealed on his X account that a user had obtained a new Nintendo Switch 2 model with a removable and replaceable battery and had taken it apart.
The European model with a removable battery is believed to already be on the market
The Nintendo Switch 2 with a removable and replaceable battery is being introduced in response to European regulations and was previously announced for release around fall 2026. As of October 15, Nintendo’s official international website states that sales are scheduled to begin at the Nintendo Store as early as October.
According to a post by modyfikatorcasper, who recently acquired the battery-swappable Switch 2, this new Switch 2 model has the following features:
The NVIDIA chip revision (effectively the model number) remains unchanged
Same 12GB of RAM, but from a different supplier
Revised motherboard
Different cooling fan
New user-replaceable battery
Regarding this new Switch 2, modyfikatorcasper stated, “It looks like a revamp of manufacturing and repairability, but it’s not a performance upgrade,” expressing the view that there is no difference in performance compared to the existing Switch 2.
Additionally, on YouTube, there is a user who claims to have obtained the new Switch 2 on September 5. According to this user, the following are ways to identify the new Switch 2:
The code above the barcode starts with “OSM.”
The serial number begins with “HLE.”
On the side of the Switch 2 packaging, above the Joy-Con 2 connection port, you can see a screw hole.
This YouTube video also concludes that there is no significant difference in performance between the previous Switch 2 and the new Switch 2.
Additionally, Nintendo’s official overseas website has published a guide on how to replace the battery in the new Switch 2, suggesting that the new model has likely already been released to the market.
Although the new Nintendo Switch 2 now supports battery replacement, it remains unclear whether it will be released in the Japanese market.
