messhof, a game development studio based in California, USA, has released the latest update for the competitive action game *Nidhogg*, which was released in 2014, implementing rollback netcode.
Significantly improved online experience!
*Nidhogg* is a versus action game in which two players battle in a fencing-style format. If you’re struck by a sword, you’re knocked out in a single hit, and while you’re reviving, your opponent can advance through the stage. The goal is to be the first to jump into the hole at the back of the opponent’s territory to win, and players can use a variety of actions, such as throwing swords and performing jumping kicks.
In addition to implementing rollback netcode, this update introduces a new online menu that allows you to invite friends to a game without opening the Steam overlay. It also adds a feature that prioritizes opponents with lower ping during online matchmaking and improves the system to prevent you from entering lobbies with AFK players.

Japanese language support has been implemented
Other updates include a new Training Mode that lets you play against the CPU on any map in solo play, as well as a Spectator Mode accessible from the “Bonuses” section of the in-game menu, where you can watch CPU vs. CPU matches. The update also includes in-game update notes, support for the latest Mac models, and various minor fixes and UI improvements.
For the PC (Steam) version, a beta branch supporting 14 new languages was released in 2025. Japanese is now selectable in this official update as well.In conjunction with this update, a sale is currently underway through October 21, 2026, during which *Nidhogg* can be purchased for 420 yen—a 65% discount. Other games by messhof are also on sale.
