Sega began distributing the PC version of the strategy game *Total War: Shogun 2 Complete Edition*, developed by The Creative Assembly, on October 14. However, the game has had a rough start, with its Steam reviews currently labeled “Overwhelmingly Negative.”
Some players have also pointed out bugs carried over from the original version
This title is the definitive edition of *Total War: Shogun 2*, released in 2011, and is a strategy game set during Japan’s Warring States period.
Featuring gameplay that combines turn-based domestic and diplomatic management with real-time tactical battles, the game challenges players to unify the nation. The “Complete Edition” includes not only the main game but also various DLCs such as “Rise of the Samurai,” which depicts the Genpei War, and“Fall of the Samurai,” which is based on the Boshin War.

The game, which now supports Japanese audio and subtitles and went on sale on October 14, has gotten off to an “overwhelmingly negative” start, with only 19% of the 1,522 Steam reviews being positive at the time of writing.
A review of the negative feedback reveals that the main complaints center on sluggish performance and stuttering, with some players stating that the game has failed to meet expectations for improved stability and performance following the switch to 64-bit. Additionally, reports indicate that bugs from the original version remain—such as units failing to follow orders during siege battles—along with issues like lag in unit selection and problems when switching audio languages.

Changes to the modding environment also appear to be a source of dissatisfaction. According to the official website’s FAQ, while the game supports in-game mods via Mod.io, it is not compatible with mods from the original version. Reviews have criticized the fact that existing mods published on the Steam Workshop cannot be carried over.
Furthermore, some have commented that the additional factions lack unique mechanics, while others argue that the improvements do not justify a repurchase and should have been provided as a free update to owners of the original version. While some reviews acknowledge improvements in gameplay and controls, others state that, given the bugs and new content, they cannot readily recommend the game in its current state.
*Total War: Shogun II Complete Edition* is now available for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store).Purchasers of *Total War: Shogun 2* will receive all DLCs for free (according to the official website, excluding the Blood Pack due to rating restrictions), and a limited-time 75% discount on the “Complete Edition” is currently available.
