Clumsy Bear Studio has released the official version 1.0 of *Hungry Horrors*.

Don’t defeat the monsters—feed them until they’re full

This game is a cooking-meets-deck-building roguelike adventure based on British and Irish folklore.

The protagonist is a spoiled, self-centered princess. When a curse spreads hunger throughout the kingdom and even a dragon awakens, she has no choice but to take matters into her own hands. Watching over her is a sharp-tongued cat who can’t resist making sarcastic remarks at every turn.

The way to face these legendary monsters isn’t through combat, but by feeding them. Each time you play a cooking card, you serve a dish, choosing which one based on how hungry the monster is and what flavors it craves.

Victory depends on whether you can fill the monster’s stomach before it closes in and devours the princess. The order in which you serve dishes and the enhancement of cards through spices are also crucial, and your strategy will change with each run depending on the cooking utensils, spices, and artifacts you acquire along the way.

The monsters, characters, and artifacts that appear are all inspired by folklore from across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The game reportedly incorporates everything from widely known tales to stories known only in specific regions.

The dishes are also based on real recipes, and many—such as Cranagan, Yorkshire pudding, and eel in jelly—can still be enjoyed today in pubs and markets.

The official version features 34 types of monsters and 62 types of food cards.

In the official version 1.0, 34 types of monsters—including the Dullahan, Jenny Green Teeth, and Queen Mab—appear across eight areas set throughout the British Isles. The game includes 62 types of food cards and 13 legendary characters.

There are two game modes: “Campaign” and “Banquet.” “Campaign” is a mode where you advance the story while replaying challenges, with difficulty levels ranging from “Classic” to “Spicy.”

“Banquet” is a mode where you take on challenging adventures in shorter sessions, with its own dedicated difficulty levels. Additionally, the game features the “Book of Taliesin” system, which allows you to grow stronger by repeating adventures, as well as 33 different death animations for when you’re captured by monsters.

This title was developed over two and a half years by two developers at Clumsy Bear Studio, a self-funded studio based in the UK.
