"The Doll Shop," an eerie horror novel set in Japan and inspired by Niigata Prefecture, is now available on Steam. It was created by a French comic book artist who also worked on "Death Stranding 2."

Cécile Brun and Olivier Pichard, the French comic book duo known as Atelier Sentô, have released a remake of the horror visual novel *The Doll Shop*, set in Japan, for PC.

The Story of a Young Dollmaker

This game tells the story of a quiet and secretive dollmaker living in rural Japan. When his childhood friend returns to the village, he is forced to choose between the doll he loves and the hope of a new life.

The creators reportedly lived in Niigata for a year between 2009 and 2010 and have visited the area numerous times over the past 20 years. They use the watercolor sketches and photographs they brought back from those trips as references, and every element in the game is hand-drawn on an iPad in a graphic novel style.

Rather than opting for dark and terrifying visuals, the developer has deliberately chosen a warm, colorful style to create a striking contrast in the player’s mind.

Key Features

  • Repair eerie dolls and reunite them with their owners.

  • Explore a small Japanese village. Visit shrines, soak in public baths, and enjoy all sorts of other activities.

  • Sample all kinds of ramen recipes at local restaurants!

  • Three different endings. Find them all to unlock the hidden ending!

“The Doll Shop”—a game where horror elements hold a strange sense of tranquility and romance carries a twisted charm—is now available on PC (Steam/itch.io). The price on Steam is 1,700 yen, and until October 20, you can purchase it for 1,530 yen—a 10% discount.

Additionally, Cecile Brun and Olivier Pichard appear as NPCs in *DEATH STRANDING 2* after Director Kojima featured their past works on social media.
