“CodePhantom,” a custom mecha action game raising your sync rate in real time, breaks limits for ultra-high-speed battles [This Week’s 3 Indies]

Here are the Game*Spark editorial team’s top indie game picks for the fifth week of September!

This week’s lineup features three titles: “CodePhantom,” a 3D action game where you pilot custom mechs to push the limits of synchronization; “Yumemiru Sakura no Sotsugyōshiki,” a unsettling horror novel depicting the “friendship” of a close-knit trio; and “Abyss Ring,” a dungeon roguelike where you cook monsters.

CodePhantom

This is a 3D mech action game where you pilot a humanoid combat mech to tackle missions such as battling enemy units, providing escort, and defusing bombs.As the protagonist, you’ll assist in demonstrating the capabilities of “PHANTOM,” a state-of-the-art combat mecha equipped with the Synapse Link System, and take on the role of its pilot.

In combat, it’s crucial to utilize the mech’s mobility—such as high-speed ground movement, jumping to gain altitude, and stepping maneuvers that combine directional inputs. Additionally, the game features a “Synchro Rate” system that increases when you attack enemies but decreases when you take damage or as time passes.

As the Sync Rate increases, your attack power, defense, movement speed, energy recovery, and lock-on range are enhanced; there are also actions available that let you manually boost the Sync Rate. During certain events, you can activate “Over-Sync Mode,” which drastically improves the mech’s performance, allowing you to enjoy high-speed battles using the exclusive “Boost Impulse” action.

When customizing your mech, you can equip up to two main weapons—such as rifles, gatling guns, and shotguns—and one sub-weapon, such as a blade or handgun, and freely reconfigure them in the garage. There are also upgrade options that enhance the Sync Rate cap, recovery rate, and other stats.

With over 20 missions planned, you’ll take on a variety of challenges—from destroying enemy mechs and battling similar models to escorting allies, defusing bombs, and exploring hazardous zones. A demo is currently available on the Steam store page.

Sakura’s Dreamy Graduation Ceremony

Set on graduation day, this visual novel depicts the friendship between a close-knit trio: Sakura, Shion, and Hina. The dialogue changes depending on whether you choose to speak to Shion or Hina first, allowing you to see the trio’s relationships from different perspectives.

At first glance, it appears to be a cute visual novel, but once you finish talking to both of them, the screen fades to black and you’re returned to the title screen. Upon replaying, the conversations begin to shift little by little; eventually, your friends’ smiles fade, and the repeating graduation ceremony gradually turns into a nightmare.

This title is the commercial version of a game originally released for free as a browser version on unityroom on August 27, 2026. The Steam version includes additional still images and new scenes, as well as a post-game bonus episode, achievements, and a jukebox feature. Please note that the unityroom version will remain available for free even after the Steam version is released.

Abyss Ring

This first-person survival roguelike action RPG challenges you to reach the deepest levels of a dungeon while battling monsters, cooking, and collecting gear. Players venture into a dungeon teeming with danger, exploring while defeating the enemies that attack them.

One of the game’s standout features is its survival element, where you cook the monsters you’ve defeated to satisfy your hunger. Securing food is just as important as combat, allowing you to enjoy an adventure that blends cooking and exploration.

The dungeon is procedurally generated, with different terrain, enemies, and treasures awaiting the player on each floor. Respond to the dangers you encounter during your exploration, devise strategies based on the situation, and aim to reach deeper levels.Additionally, the game features over 200 types of equipment, including weapons and rare artifacts. You can enhance your combat and survival abilities by combining different pieces of equipment, allowing you to pursue a playstyle that suits you best.
