"Squadron 42," a space epic 12 years in the making, is finally available on the Steam Store! A new trailer featuring a star-studded cast has also been released, and the game fully supports Japanese.

Cloud Imperium Games has launched the Steam store page for “Squadron 42,” a single-player spin-off of the space MMO “Star Citizen,” and has begun accepting wishlist additions. A new trailer, “The Oath,” has also been released.

Featuring a Star-Studded Cast Including Mark Hamill and Henry Cavill! New Trailer Released

*Squadron 42* is a single-player sci-fi action-adventure game set in the same universe as the long-in-development space MMO *Star Citizen*.Players enlist in the UEE Space Force and experience an epic story set on the front lines of a galactic war through piloting combat ships, engaging in FPS combat, and exploring capital ships, space stations, and frontier outposts.

The new footage features an all-star Hollywood cast, including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis, and Ben Mendelsohn. In the newly released trailer, you can catch a glimpse of intense space battles, onboard drama, and the game’s characters.

Development began in 2014, and the title has faced repeated release delays over the years. In 2024, over an hour of gameplay footage was released, and a 2026 release date was announced; however, it has since been pushed back to the second quarter of 2027.

Regarding the reason for the delay, Chris Roberts, CEO of Cloud Imperium Games, explained that it was to avoid a period when attention would be focused on *GTA 6*, scheduled for release in November 2026.

External players finally got to try it out for about 5 hours! Positive reactions to the graphics and combat

Furthermore, Cloud Imperium Games has been hosting a hands-on event at its development studio in Manchester, UK, since October 9, inviting early backers and content creators.

Participants were able to play the game for about five hours, and players who experienced it firsthand have been posting their impressions on platforms like Reddit.

One participant highly praised the quality of the graphics, particularly the character models and facial expressions. Regarding the FPS combat, they also reported that the AI behavior—such as enemies reviving allies or attacking players from the side—was impressive.

On the other hand, some noted that the story progression is cinematic, with many scenes prioritizing presentation over player freedom. Glitches, such as graphical artifacts and certain objects not rendering properly, have also been reported.

While these impressions are strictly those of individual trial participants and do not reflect the final quality of the retail version, the fact that a full-scale trial for external players was conducted for this title—whose development progress has long been the subject of attention—can be considered a major step forward.

“Squadron 42” is scheduled for release on PC (Steam) in the second quarter of 2027. The Steam store page explicitly states that the game will support a Japanese interface and subtitles. It also notes that a separate Roberts Space Industries account is required to play the game.
