"Overwhelmingly Well-Received" Robot Adventure Game "Machinarium 2," the First Sequel in 17 Years, Announced! Switch Between Two Robots to Tackle Puzzles That Can't Be Solved by Just One [Triple-i Initiative Showcase]

Amanita Design announced *Machinarium 2*, the sequel to the acclaimed adventure game *Machinarium*, during the “Triple-i Initiative Showcase,” which aired on October 9 at 1:00 a.m.

Joseph and Berta’s adventure resumes in a hidden valley on the brink of running out of power

This puzzle-adventure game is developed by the Czech indie studio Amanita Design, known for titles such as *Samorost*, *Creaks*, and *Phonopolis*.

The story picks up directly where the previous game, *Machinarium* (2009), left off: after escaping the city of Machinarium, Josef and Berta crash-land in the wilderness. At the bottom of the cliff, the two discover a hidden valley inhabited by two strange tribes of robots. One tribe lives in a monastery atop a rocky mountain, while the other resides in a town at its base; both are gradually losing power.

In this game, you can switch between controlling Joseph and Berta at any time. By combining their respective abilities, you’ll solve puzzles that neither robot could solve alone. As in the previous game, there is no text whatsoever; the robots communicate through animated, comic-style speech bubbles, symbols, and gestures.

Additionally, the game is fully compatible with gamepads, and a new feature allows you to move the robots directly without using a cursor. While the development team considers this the optimal way to play, mouse controls are still supported for players who prefer the traditional adventure-game feel.

All backgrounds are hand-drawn, and Floex returns to compose the music

All in-game environments are hand-drawn, in a style inspired by the drawings of classical masters and Renaissance landscape paintings. The robots are also depicted with expressive animations.

The soundtrack is composed by Tomáš Dvořák (Floex), who also composed the music for the previous title, *Machinarium*. While retaining the robotic world’s atmosphere and the acoustic texture of the previous game, the soundtrack reportedly features new symphonic arrangements.

Jakub Dvorský, CEO and game designer at Amanita Design, commented on the game’s development as follows:

We’re not getting any younger, and it seems like the world is heading toward its end. If we’re going to make *Machinarium 2*, now is the time. We’d also like to thank all the players who have waited patiently for so many years. We couldn’t have made this happen without you.

*Machinarium 2* is currently in development for PC (Steam) and is scheduled to be compatible with Windows and macOS. The release date has not yet been determined, and details regarding other platforms and release dates will be announced at a later time.

Additionally, the previous title, *Machinarium*, is on sale on Steam with an 80% discount through October 15.
