An interview article (Japanese version) by the international media outlet IGN with the lead developer of *Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)* sparked a frenzy of speculation that the game might feature “genital depictions.” On October 8, IGN published an article denying the claims, stating, “No, I haven’t seen Jason’s penis.”
It’s true that full nudity was visible, but…
The interview article features the unedited transcript of a conversation between IGN’s Rachel Weber and Rob Nelson, the lead developer and co-studio head of *GTA 6*, as he watched a 30-minute demo he played himself. During the conversation, they touched on a shower scene featuring the protagonist, Jason.
[At this point, Nelson switches to Jason’s perspective, and the protagonist is… completely naked.]
Whoops, when the camera switched, Jason was taking a shower!
In his article, Mr. Weber admitted, “Yes, Jason was completely naked,” but noted that thanks to skillful camera angles, his “private parts” were thoroughly concealed. He explicitly denied the rumors spreading online claiming that “a full-frontal nude view is visible,” stating, “I did not see Jason’s penis.”
However, he stated that he “has no way of knowing” whether Rockstar has rendered Jason’s crotch in the game (even if it’s not visible on screen). He also noted that since Mr. Nelson was playing a demo version, “I don’t know what will be included in the final product,” offering a somewhat vague comment.
On Reddit, in response to a post stating that “the full nudity was a misunderstanding,” comments included: “There was just one mention of him taking a shower, and a lot of people thought they’d be able to run around the map swinging his penis around,” and “I’m disappointed, so I’m canceling my pre-order. Free the penis!”

Mr. Weber’s latest article isn’t a serious attempt to hastily dispel the misunderstanding that full frontal nudity—including the crotch—was visible.
It’s a lighthearted debunking piece, peppered with phrases like “From the Front Lines of Game Journalism—The Crotch Situation in ‘GTA 6,’” “We’ve Now Reached the Point Where Even the Visibility of Genitals Is Reported as ‘GTA 6’ News,” and “Today’s ‘No Nudity’ ‘GTA 6’ News.”
*Grand Theft Auto VI* is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and XBOX Series X|S.
