On October 7, Bryan Livingston released a demo version of the block-organizing game *Never Sort By Color* for PC (Steam). On October 5, he announced that the game had surpassed 100,000 wishlist entries.

A Notable "Torture-Style" Tidy-Up Game

*Never Sort By Color* is a so-called “Tidy-Up/Sort-Slap” game in which players pick up blocks scattered all over a traditional Japanese-style room one by one and put them away in storage boxes.A representative title of this genre is *The Librarian’s Job: Clean Up the Magical Library!*, and the developers have explicitly stated that this game was influenced by it.

What sets it apart from other tidying-up games is that, true to its title, you do not “sort by color” the massive pile of scattered blocks; instead, you identify them by shape and group similar types together.

It also appears to include gameplay where you can build models using the collected blocks.

The game’s Steam store page went live in July, and it has now surpassed 100,000 wishlist entries.

The developers commented, “It all started with just me, my studio, and a mountain of blocks that no one had ever seen before. Now, so many people who understand why we shouldn’t sort by color have gathered here,” and “Sort by parts. Always by parts.”

With the November 11 release date fast approaching, a demo version has been released. While some of the skills that make tidying up easier have been disabled, it’s a “deluxe” (?) demo that lets you clean up every single block scattered throughout a traditional Japanese-style room. In fact, it might even be more challenging than the full version.

Even the demo version has this level of density

"Don’t Sort by Color" is scheduled for release on November 11 for PC (Steam). The demo is now available.
