Attention seems to be focusing on the fact that a certain in-game element from *METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS* (hereinafter “MGS4”) has been recognized by Guinness World Records.
A port is set to be released in 2026! The PS3 title where Solid Snake settles the score
“MGS4” is the final title in the chronological order of the “Saga” series—the main canon of the *Metal Gear* franchise. It serves as a culmination of the series up to that point and depicts Solid Snake’s final battle.Released for the PS3 on June 12, 2008, the game is notable for the “length of its event movies (cutscenes),” likely because it needed to summarize the content—including foreshadowing—of the previous five canonical series titles (plus a bit more).
Furthermore, Guinness World Records recognized a single in-game cutscene lasting 27 minutes as the “Longest cutscene in a video game.” A supplementary note also mentions that the total duration of the series of cutscenes toward the end of the game amounts to 71 minutes.
In October 2026—more than 18 years after the game’s release—this record appears to be gaining renewed attention on the “Today I Learned” community on the international forum Reddit.
The post highlighting the record also noted that the game’s total cutscenes amount to over 8 hours, garnering significant attention with 27,000 upvotes at the time of writing. In the comments section, alongside reflections from players recalling, “These cutscenes were longer than I expected, and I ended up staying up past my bedtime,” there are also opinions praising the game, such as, “It was a wonderful conclusion to the series; while I can’t praise it unreservedly, it also laid the groundwork for *MGSV*.”
Some users are even debating “the nature of cutscenes,” questioning the importance of pause and skip functions, and referencing *Final Fantasy XIV*, which provides warnings before a series of consecutive cutscenes.
Incidentally, the *MGS4* that’s been making headlines is currently available as a port for PC (Steam),PS5,XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo Switch. It can be purchased as part of the *METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 2* bundle or as a standalone title.
