Variety, an international media outlet, has reported that the PvPvE escape shooter *ARC Raiders* and the free-to-play FPS *THE FINALS*, both developed by Embark Studios—a game studio under Nexon—will be adapted into a movie and TV series (drama).
Developer to Collaborate on Adaptation
“ARC Raiders,” which has reportedly been greenlit for adaptation, is a PvPvE escape shooter set on a future Earth dominated by a mysterious machine called “ARC.” Players take on the role of “Raiders,” gathering supplies on the desolate surface while keeping an eye out for ARC and other Raiders, all while aiming to survive and return home.
Meanwhile, *THE FINALS* is a free-to-play FPS set in a combat game show taking place in a virtual space, where teams compete for wealth, fame, and sponsorship.One of the game’s key features is the ability to destroy walls and buildings in arenas modeled after real-world cities to alter the course of battle, allowing players to enjoy combat that combines a diverse array of weapons and gadgets with environmental destruction.
Chernin Entertainment, which is taking on the challenge of adapting both titles, is the production company behind the current blockbuster hit “Backrooms” (co-produced with A24 and others). According to Variety, the company was selected after multiple production companies and studios competed for the film rights to both titles.
For the adaptations, Embark’s creative team will work closely with Chernin. Patrick Söderlund, Executive Chairman of Nexon and Founder and CEO of Embark Studios, views this agreement as a major step toward expanding the worlds of both titles beyond gaming.
Additionally, David Ready, head of Chernin’s film division, noted that there are numerous stories to tell within the worlds of both works and stated that film and television teams will collaborate on the projects. However, the report did not provide details such as directors, cast, or release dates.
Major Update Coming to ‘ARC,’ Including Free-to-Play
“ARC Raiders” is also scheduled to release a major update titled “Frozen Trail” on October 8.Described as the largest update since the game’s launch, it will introduce numerous new features, including the “Pendra Pass” map, high-difficulty content on the “Frigate” warship, and the new “Outpost” base.
Additionally, from 6:00 PM on October 8 to 5:00 PM on October 12, a free-to-play event for the full version will be held on PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Furthermore, a “PvE Matchmaking Test” will be conducted for a limited time from October 13 to October 20.
