D-Pad Studio plans to release an update for the action-adventure game *Owlboy* on November 1, 2026 (local time).

Released on November 2, 2016, this action-adventure game follows an owl tribe on an adventure with their companions. The protagonist is “Othas,” a misfit member of the owl tribe, and the adventure begins when pirates suddenly invade his village.
Billed as “a passionate love letter to Super Famicom-era games,” the game features pixel art visuals. Players will progress through dungeons and boss battles by dividing roles between “a protagonist who can fly but is a bit unreliable in combat” and “a companion capable of long-range attacks.”
At the time of writing, the game has a Metacritic Metascore of88and is rated “Very Positive” on Steam. Now, a special update to commemorate the game’s 10th anniversary has been announced.
According to the announcement, while the game previously required players to use the controller’s stick or the mouse (for keyboard and mouse setups) to have allies shoot or throw objects, this update will introduce an auto-aim feature that can be toggled on or off.
This will not only allow the game to be played with a wider variety of controllers but will also include features that make it easier to play using only a keyboard.
Furthermore, players will now be able to enable or disable visual effects such as screen shake, and cutscenes can be skipped. A “Super Dash” feature has been added to help the protagonist move more quickly, and there are now more ways to deal with various enemies and utilize party members. Additionally, elements that hindered game balance and pacing have reportedly been improved.
The special update for *Owlboy* is scheduled for release on November 1 (local time). The game is currently on sale on Steam at 575 yen—a 75% discount—through October 9.
