The Original "Portal"

Valve is currently running a sale on Steam for the classic puzzle game *Portal* and its sequel, *Portal 2*.

"Portal": Innovative Puzzles That Warp Space

Whatever enters the blue portal emerges from the orange portal (and vice versa)

Released by Valve in 2007, *Portal* is a first-person puzzle game. Armed with a device called the “Portal Gun,” players create two portals (an entrance and an exit) on walls and floors to connect spaces as they navigate through test chambers.

The game is set in the mysterious Aperture Science research facility. The puzzles, which make full use of the laws of physics, are described on the store page as “one of the most innovative games in recent years” and are highly regarded as a breakthrough in game design on par with the Gravity Gun from *Half-Life 2*.

In its play report on “Portal Revolution”—a collection of user-created mods—Game*Spark described the original “Portal” as “a legendary puzzle game often called the ‘textbook of Steam’ that has been loved for a long time.”The story and presentation, packed with cynical yet passionate interactions with the AI administrator “GLaDOS,” are major draws—and many people might even say this aspect left a stronger impression on them.

“Portal 2”: A Sequel Packed with Even More Engaging Puzzles and Story, and Brimming with Content

Released in 2011, *Portal 2* significantly expanded upon the gameplay and story of its predecessor. In single-player mode, new puzzle elements—such as gels that produce various effects when applied—make their debut, and the game depicts a reunion with GLaDOS. Furthermore, it supports two-player co-op with its own unique story and characters, offering a truly substantial experience.

The original *Portal* won over 30 “Game of the Year” awards worldwide in 2007. Together with *Portal 2*, it has become a classic title that’s highly recommended as soon as you install Steam.

During the Steam Summer Sale, the original *Portal* and its sequel are on sale for 240 yen—an 80% discount. The “Portal Bundle,” which bundles both games, is priced at 360 yen—a 120-yen savings compared to purchasing them individually at their sale prices (a total of 480 yen).

The Summer Sale runs until 2:00 a.m. on July 10 (Japan Time). Why not take this opportunity to try out this classic puzzle game that has been beloved for over 10 years?
