Swedish indie game studio Y/CJ/Y has announced that it will not be releasing the Switch and PS5 versions of its driving simulation RPG *Keep Driving* in Japan and South Korea.
A Road Trip Set in the Early 2000s
Set in the early 2000s, this simulation RPG follows a road trip to a festival in the player’s first car. In a procedurally generated open world featuring pixel art, players freely choose their route, pick up hitchhikers, and customize their car as they journey.
Along the way, players overcome various challenges using a unique turn-based “combat” system and aim for multiple endings.A single playthrough takes approximately 1 to 4 hours. The game draws inspiration from titles such as *Oregon Trail II* and *FTL: Faster Than Light*. On Steam, as of this writing, it holds a “Very Positive” rating with 93% of reviews being “Positive.”
Switch and PS5 Versions Postponed Due to Failed Rating Approval
The development studio reported on its social media that the game failed to pass age rating reviews in Japan and South Korea. Elements such as drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and slot machines were reportedly flagged as problematic. The developer commented, “We weren’t even allowed to use a banner image showing cigarette smoke (even though holding a gun is fine).”
The status for each platform is as follows:
Nintendo Switch version: Will not be released in Japan or South Korea. Release in other Asia-Pacific regions has been delayed (date to be determined).
PS5 version: No release planned for Japan or South Korea at this time; scheduled for release in other regions
Xbox Version: Scheduled for release without issues in all regions
"Keep Driving" is currently available on PC (Steam, GOG.com), PS5 (international),XBOX Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch (international).
