"Highly Acclaimed" Card-Based Political Adventure Game "Reigns" Developer "Nerial" Ceases Operations—A Chapter Closes After 13 Years

Tamara Alliot and François Alliot, co-founders of Nerial, announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the studio is ceasing development activities after 13 years.

Most recently, they released *Reigns: The Witcher*, a collaboration with *The Witcher*.

Nerial is an indie game development studio known for *Reigns*, a political adventure game where players determine the fate of a kingdom through card selections, which holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam.

Acquired by Devolver Digital in 2021, the studio most recently released *Reigns: The Witcher*, a collaboration with *The Witcher* series, on February 26, 2026.

In this announcement, the studio revealed that it has decided to cease development activities in collaboration with Devolver Digital. It also reflected on its past projects, such as *Reigns* and *The Crash House*, and expressed gratitude to everyone inside and outside the studio, including those who worked with them on a temporary basis.

In closing the announcement, they stated that this hiatus “does not mark the end of game development for us.” While François Alliot’s passion for creating games remains as strong as ever, they revealed that “we must first take a break and reflect on what has happened so far.”
