Regarding the highly anticipated title *Grand Theft Auto VI* (hereinafter *GTA 6*), scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, social media posts suggesting that “it might not win the 2026 Game of the Year (GOTY) award” have been circulating among overseas users. This was sparked by a comment from a former judge of The Game Awards (TGA), who suggested that winning the GOTY award at that event might be difficult due to scheduling conflicts.

A Huge Hit, but Will It Win GOTY?

As the latest installment in a globally popular series, the game has generated so much buzz that many other titles worldwide avoided releasing in the same month—a fact that made headlines when release dates became heavily concentrated in September 2026.

While this title is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, speculation has suddenly spread among overseas users on X that it might be difficult for it to win the 2026 Game of the Year award.

The timing makes a TGA win unlikely

Articles by international media outlets such asDexertoandIGNsparked the spread of this speculation; these articles reference a video posted on YouTube by Alana Pierce, a former journalist who now works as a game writer and voice actress.

In this video—an excerpt from a live stream on August 28—Pierce dismissed a viewer’s opinion that *GTA 6* would sweep the 2026 Game of the Year awards, stating, “I don’t think that’s possible.” She cited scheduling conflicts with the TGA, one of the major Game of the Year awards, as the reason.

Having served as a TGA judge in the past, she explained that the judges would likely have very little time to play *GTA 6* before voting, adding, “They’ll end up voting on a game they haven’t played.”

While he didn’t rule out the possibility of the game winning a few awards, when asked whether Rockstar Games might move up the release date to win Game of the Year at the TGA, he replied, “They don’t need the TGA. It’s the other way around.”
