Asha Sharma, CEO of Xbox, spoke about the partnership with Kojima Productions and the relationship with Sony in an interview with the international media outlet *The New York Times*.

Cooperation with Sony Continues

Following *OD*, Xbox has once again formed a partnership with Kojima Productions for their new action-espionage title, *PHYSINT*.Development of the game had initially proceeded with the cooperation of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), but it was revealed in September 2026 that Kojima Productions and SIE had dissolved their partnership.

Amid this, according to an article recently published by The New York Times, Mr. Sharma mentioned regarding the “PHYSINT” contract that he is pleased Hideo Kojima chose to partner with Xbox. At the same time, he stated that the partnership with Sony will continue, adding that “competition and cooperation can coexist.”

The article also reports, citing sources, that the contract amount was significantly lower than what Xbox typically spends on the development of major titles. While the contract reportedly includes film and television adaptation rights, no specific figures were disclosed.

Additionally, on September 20, Kojima Productions issued a statement calling for careful judgment regarding speculation surrounding the reasons for the change in partners for *PHYSINT*, as well as production plans and investment.

In the statement, the studio pointed out that the article in question (not the recent New York Times article) was not based on official or verifiable sources. We would like to reiterate that the studio is financially sound and profitable, that development of *PHYSINT* is proceeding smoothly in collaboration with Xbox, and that its relationship with PlayStation remains strong.

In the interview, while acknowledging that speculation regarding the sale of XBOX has been circulating for some time, the studio was also asked whether selling the XBOX business was its ultimate goal.Mr. Sharma stated clearly, “We are not putting Xbox up for sale,” and added, “We intend to do whatever is necessary to lead the company to success,” noting that they would explore appropriate partnerships and operational models moving forward.

The interview also covered Xbox’s business strategy and other topics. For more details, please see the New York Times article.
