Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Campfire Cabal have released "Early Access Update 1," a major update for the RPG *Expeditions: Samurai*, which is currently available on Steam Early Access.
An RPG About Living as a “European Samurai”
In this game, the protagonist—who has traveled from the Netherlands to Japan—joins forces with companions to navigate the politics, conspiracies, and human dramas of the daimyo, all while searching for a way to survive.By forging various relationships and prevailing in combat through stealth and the use of gadgets, you’ll carve out your own unique history amid these turbulent times.
This update introduces new hairstyles, head models, and outfits, offering even greater variety in character creation. In addition to adding new in-game items and weapons, the implementation of a barrel-carrying system makes preparing for naval battles more intuitive, and players can now cause chaos by placing barrels of gunpowder in the paths of patrolling soldiers.
Furthermore, the role-playing elements have been enhanced: you can now check your allies’ skills during skill checks in conversations, and enemy soldiers’ behavior has changed when on alert. New features and improvements have also been implemented in various areas, such as enhanced cutscenes and the addition of new control menus.

Major balance adjustments and bug fixes
The update also includes an increase in the number of party members allowed in certain areas, improvements to stealth during combat, and weapon balance adjustments. Updates have been made to numerous elements—including combat, trading, and conversations—and critical bugs have been fixed.
Regarding this major update, the developers noted that, thanks to the extensive feedback received from many users during Early Access, it has become a far more “user-driven” update than originally anticipated. For details on the patch notes—which reportedly span a total of 10 pages—please refer to the post on Steam.

*Expeditions: Samurai* is currently available on Steam Early Access. The second major update, scheduled for release in November, will introduce Chapter 2 featuring “Oni Shimazu” and include additional new features.
