"Wizardry Gaiden: The Five Trials," a 3D dungeon RPG currently available for PC and Nintendo Switch from Game*Spark Publishing. While the game offers a simple, fast-paced, and hardcore RPG experience, a major update is scheduled for this fall regarding the scenario editor—a key feature exclusive to Steam edition purchasers.
Therefore, in this series of articles, we’ll be providing a general overview of the new features to be added in the scenario editor’s major update. (Since the game is still in development, the details described in this article—particularly the names of features—are subject to change.)
While the scenario editor itself is exclusive to Steam version purchasers, scenarios created with it—including those utilizing features added in the major update—can, of course, be played on the Switch version as well. It will be interesting to see what kinds of scenarios users create in the future.
Options for Customizing Detailed Rules
In Part 5, we’ll introduce “Additional Scenario Options.” While several options were already available in the special scenario “The Underground Labyrinth of Electric Town,” the major update will allow users to access these new options as well.
The options being added this time are as follows.
English Messages Only
Until now, you could only create scenarios that were “compatible with both Japanese and English” or “Japanese only,” but you’ll now be able to create scenarios that are “English only.”
Damage Reduction Based on Faith
Players will be able to reduce the magical damage they take based on their level of faith. Previously, low faith only meant that damage taken increased—it did not reduce damage—but with this option, damage reduction is now possible.
Return to the Entrance with an Evacuation Spell
When casting the Evacuate spell, instead of returning directly to the surface, you’ll be teleported back to the coordinates corresponding to the “entrance” of the current dungeon.
Changes in Magic Power Affect Damage
Previously, adjusting power through magical effects only affected hit rate; now, it will also affect damage.
Settings After Weapon/Armor Destruction
The behavior when a monster’s weapon or armor destruction ability is applied has been changed. In addition to the standard “Delete” option, you can now choose from “Move to Trash,” “Unequip,” or “Item Changes After Destruction.”
Increase in Attack Count
When the number of attacks is increased by a magic effect, previously the effects of all equipped items applied to all weapons. Now, you can choose to have the main and sub weapons calculated separately.
Class Change at the Training Grounds
You can now configure changes to attribute values (such as Strength) and age when performing a class change at the Training Ground. For attribute values, you can choose from “Default,” “Keep As Is,” or “Reduce Uniformly by [specified value].” For age, you can choose from “Default,” “Keep As Is,” or “Add [specified value] years.”
Character Reincarnation
You’ll be able to set attribute values when reincarnating a character from a different scenario. You can choose from “Default,” “As-Is,” or “Uniformly reduced by a specified value.” Additionally, while it’s still unclear whether this will be ready in time for the major update, an option to set attributes “up to a maximum of the base value plus a specified value” is also planned.
Unlimited ViewMap Command
As an Easy Mode option, when using the map viewing shortcut (activated by pressing the “V” key), you’ll be able to view the map an unlimited number of times without using spells or items.

All of these options will be available for existing scenarios after the major update, so you’ll be able to adjust settings specifically for class changes or reincarnation.
New Item SP
Although this is slightly different from scenario options, several new SP values that can be set for items will be added, so I’ll introduce them here.

Change Race
You’ll be able to set SPs that randomly change your race, as well as SPs that change your race to a specified one, ranging from Human to Hob.
Changing Gender
You’ll be able to set SPs that randomly change the character’s gender, as well as SPs that change the gender to a specified male or female.
Experience Points +5K to +1M
Previously, there was an SP that granted “+25,000 EXP,” but you will now be able to set similar values such as +5K (5,000), +10K (10,000), +50K (50,000),+100K (100,000), +500K (500,000), and +1M/ALL (+1,000,000). Only the +1M/ALL SP increases the experience points for all party members.
Removing Curses
Removes curses from equipment. This not only allows you to unequip cursed gear but also removes the “curse” effect itself when it is set as a magical effect.
That concludes our introduction to the fifth installment of “Additional Scenario Options.” This is the final installment in our series introducing the new features of this major update.
Please stay tuned for the update scheduled for this fall, which will transform dungeon creation—including the features we’ve covered in the past.
