"Wizardry Gaiden: The Five Trials," a 3D dungeon RPG currently available for PC and Nintendo Switch from Game*Spark Publishing. While the game offers a simple, fast-paced, and hardcore RPG experience, a major update is scheduled for this fall regarding the scenario editor—a key feature exclusive to Steam edition purchasers.
Therefore, in this series of articles, we’ll be providing a general overview of the new features to be added in the scenario editor’s major update. (Since the game is still in development, the details described in this article—particularly the names of features—are subject to change.)
While the scenario editor itself is exclusive to Steam edition purchasers, scenarios created with it—including those featuring features added in the major update—can, of course, be played on the Switch edition as well. It will be interesting to see what kinds of scenarios users create in the future.
Breaking Free from the "Initial Characters Are the Weakest" Stereotype
In Part 4, we’ll cover “Editing Default Characters.” Until now, the characters initially registered at the tavern when a scenario began were fixed—neither their names nor their abilities could be changed.
While the previous editor allowed you to set up characters for test runs, the process was cumbersome—requiring you to export the file and manually save it to a specific folder.

With this major update, a new setting—"Use test characters upon initialization"—will be added. This will allow you to freely edit up to 20 of the characters initially registered at the tavern. You might want to create the strongest characters for test play—starting at Level 999, with all spells learned and equipped with the best gear. You can also prepare six standard characters as before, or opt for just one veteran character, or even create the weakest characters possible.
That concludes our fourth installment on “Editing Starting Characters.” We hope you’ll look forward to seeing these reliable starting characters in action. Next time, we’ll introduce “Additional Scenario Options.”
*Wizardry Gaiden: The Five Trials* is now available for PC and Nintendo Switch.
