Free Wing and NPC Entertainment have released the official version of the Three Kingdoms RPG sandbox game *Heroes' Vow: Three Kingdoms* for PC (Steam).
Set in the world of the Three Kingdoms during the late Eastern Han Dynasty, this single-player-only sandbox RPG challenges players to survive this turbulent era as a lone hero. The developer, Free Wing, is a small Chinese team of fewer than 10 people, composed of die-hard fans who grew up playing the *Taiko Risshiden* and *Romance of the Three Kingdoms* series.Development began out of a passionate desire to “fill the void ourselves if an official sequel to *Taiko Risshiden* isn’t released,” and after a full five and a half years, the team released an Early Access(EA) version for the Chinese market in March 2025, followed by another year and a half of continuous updates leading up to the official release.
A free-form “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” experience woven from over 1,300 generals and more than 20 scenarios

In this game, you’re not limited to forging a path to unify the realm as a ruler; you can also assist a great leader as a vassal to accumulate merits, or lead your own private army as a warlord outside the establishment to manipulate the course of this turbulent era from behind the scenes—offering multifaceted role-playing experiences tailored to your playstyle.A major feature is the ability to simulate the personal lives of individual generals down to the finest details—from forming sworn brotherhoods with heroes to marriage and child-rearing, managing clans and estates, and training in martial arts and rhetoric.
You can play not only as generals from the Three Kingdoms era but also create your own original generals to serve as protagonists and introduce them into the world.

The world is depicted using a three-tiered structure consisting of a “World Map,” “City Screen,” and “Small-Scale Stage,” covering everything from grand military strategies to scenes of city life. The game includes over 20 initial scenarios, ranging from the “Yellow Turban Rebellion”—which marks the beginning of the Three Kingdoms era—to the “Battle of Xiling” toward the end of the era, with the total scenario text exceeding 2 million characters.Over 1,300 historical generals appear, with more than 2,000 full-body dynamic Live2D character portraits implemented.

On the combat front, three modes are available: army battles, one-on-one duels (melee), and verbal duels.Army battles adopt a full-fledged real-time strategy (RTS) system, allowing you to command over 30 types of troop classes across more than 100 different operational maps, including open-field battles, siege warfare, and naval battles. Meanwhile, duels and verbal duels take the form of turn-based card battles, where you take on challenges by freely building decks that combine over 1,000 types of skills and souls.
The game also supports mods via the Steam Workshop.

Additionally, the long-awaited Japanese localization has been implemented to coincide with the official release.
"Heroes' Chronicles: Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is now available for PC (Steam). The price is 2,070 yen.
