Independent developer Mr. Hirasaka released the horror action comedy *Death Momotaro* for PC (Steam) today, September 25.
It also features a high-difficulty “Death Mode.” What awaits you at the end…?
This game is a horror action comedy based on “Momotaro,” one of Japan’s most famous folk tales.
Players take on the role of the protagonist, “Death Momotaro,” and—instead of immediately heading to Oni Island to slay the ogres—must evade the kitchen knife wielded by “Death Grandpa,” who is supposed to be his foster father, and engage in battles with his supposed trusted companions: the dog, monkey, and pheasant (collectively known as the Death Animals).

Chapter 3 of the game does feature battles against the ogres, but Death Momotaro doesn’t use a sword. As if ignoring the world of the folktale, he uses a gun to unleash a spectacular barrage of bullets.

The estimated playtime is one hour. Based on the Steam store page, it appears the story continues even after defeating the ogres—could the next challenge be “Death Grandma,” the strongest character in the game, who was introduced by Mr. Hirasaka on X?
*Death Momotaro* is currently available for PC (Steam). The regular price is 420 yen, and a sale offering the game at a 10% discount—378 yen—is underway through October 9.
