A Reconstructed 8-Episode Series
“SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT” is an animated feature film that had a limited three-week run in theaters nationwide starting September 4, 2026. A Story Depicting Ninja Battles
Set during the Warring States period, this story depicts the battles of the ninja unfolding in the land of Ashina. The protagonist, Ōkami, is a skilled ninja serving Kuro, a young boy from Ashina. Kuro is a descendant of a clan with a special bloodline known as “Ryūin,” which possesses the power to grant immortality. However, in exchange for this immortality, the Ryūin bloodline has brought upon the people a fatal disease known as “Dragon Cough.”As Kuro searches for a cure for Dragon Cough, he learns that it can only be achieved at the cost of his own life and resolves to sever the Dragon Lineage. Meanwhile, upon learning of the resolve Kuro had been hiding, Ōkami throws himself into a harrowing battle, determined to change Kuro’s fate on his own.
The newly released key visual for the TV anime depicts Wolf and Kuro, master and servant, standing resolutely amidst swaying pampas grass, as if gazing beyond their harsh fate. The composition shows formidable foes yet unseen closing in from behind the two, and—accompanied by the striking tagline “Hesitate, and you will fall”—it foreshadows the arrival of even greater hardships.
Originally planned as an 8-episode TV series
ARCH, the production company in charge, revealed that the series was originally planned as an 8-episode TV series from the outset. However, as production progressed, the production team decided to release an edited theatrical version first, driven by a strong desire for audiences to “experience this work’s overwhelming visuals and sound on the big screen first.” A statement of apology was issued regarding the fact that the film is an edited version and that details about the TV series could not be announced in advance.
Additionally, the TV series—which will include scenes and cuts not featured in the film—is set to be released weekly as a work that, while centered on the story depicted in the film, offers a distinct experience and its own unique appeal.
