Guinness World Records reported that a 78-year-old Twitch streamer has been recognized as the “oldest female Fortnite streamer.”
A grandma streamer with 24,000 followers! She also shared a message of encouragement for aspiring older gamers
The record reported this time belongs to Cath Bowie, a resident of Scotland, UK, who goes by the username “grumpygran1948.”
Now 78 years old, she has been playing *Fortnite*—which was released in 2017—for about nine years, meaning she’s been playing since the game’s early days. As of this writing, she is primarily known as a Twitch streamer and has now been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the “oldest female *Fortnite* streamer.”
According to an interview with Guinness World Records, Ms. Bowie first became interested in the game after seeing her grandson playing it, and it was her grandson who sparked her interest in streaming as well.
At the time, her grandson—who couldn’t believe his grandmother would do such a thing—told her, “No one will join you or watch you,” and those words served as a major motivator for her (a red rag to a bull). Determined to “show him that I can do it myself,” she has reportedly amassed 24,000 Twitch followers as of this writing.
Furthermore, Ms. Bowie’s playstyle isn’t about “old-school victories”; instead, she sets a goal for herself in every match with the aim of constantly challenging herself, and she does it for herself and to chat with her beloved supporters.
In the interview, Bowie expressed gratitude to her family and the many friends she’s played with over the years. She also shared a message for those aspiring to become older gamers: “Don’t give up because of your age. If I can do it, so can you.”
