"Wizardry Gaiden: The Five Trials," a 3D dungeon RPG currently available for PC and Nintendo Switch from Game*Spark Publishing. While the game offers a simple, fast-paced, and hardcore RPG experience, a major update is scheduled for this fall regarding the scenario editor—a key feature exclusive to Steam edition purchasers.

Therefore, in this series of articles, we’ll provide a general overview of the new features to be added in the scenario editor’s major update. (Since the game is still in development, the details described in this article—particularly the names of features—are subject to change.)

While the scenario editor itself is exclusive to Steam edition purchasers, scenarios created with it—including those utilizing features added in the major update—can, of course, be played on the Switch version as well. It will be interesting to see what kinds of scenarios users create in the future.

Addition of New Monster Images

In Part 3, we’ll cover “New Monster Images.”Until now, users have not been able to use the monster images added in the current default scenario, “The Price of Deception,” or the additional scenario, “Prison of Battle.” However, with this update, you’ll be able to select from approximately 30 new images, including those from these scenarios. For most of the added images (with a few exceptions), you can change their colors by adjusting the RGB values.

This makes it possible to feature monsters that look different from what you’ve seen before.

Adjusting the Position in the Monster Encyclopedia

Previously, monsters were displayed in the bestiary strictly in the order they were created within the editor. As a result, if you created monsters with gaps in between or added them later, issues would arise—such as “empty slots that could never be filled” appearing in the middle of the bestiary, or “monsters added later always appearing at the very end of the bestiary.”

With this update, settings related to the monster encyclopedia have been added to the monster data. This allows you to set the order in the editor and the order in the game (within the encyclopedia) separately.

Additionally, you can now set whether each monster “appears in the bestiary” on a per-monster basis, allowing you to do things like hide bosses entirely, regardless of their position in the editor’s monster list.

That concludes our third installment on “Adding Monster Images.” Please look forward to the new possibilities these monsters will offer. Next time, we’ll cover “Editing Default Characters.”

*Wizardry Gaiden: The Five Trials* is now available for PC and Nintendo Switch.
