On September 21, 2026, Jotoyo released the latest trailer for “Monster Fantasy,” a life simulation and hunting action game scheduled to begin its playtest on September 23 at 12:00 a.m. Japan Time. A playtest preview guide has also been released.
The game also features a “Wizard” class. Will this set it apart from existing hunting action games?

This game blends hunting action—where players confront giant monsters, hunt them to obtain materials, and craft them into weapons and armor—with a slow-life simulation where players interact with villagers. The *Monster Hunter* series is cited as one of its sources of inspiration.

The newly released trailer showcases combination play, with the “Mage” guarding against attacks, the “Samurai” swinging a sword, the “Warrior” unleashing a charged slash, and the “Archer” targeting specific body parts to break them.

The early playtest guide also reveals that the four classes—"Samurai," "Warrior," "Mage," and "Archer"—are currently implemented, and each appears to have its own distinctive actions.

The guide also introduces the boss monsters appearing in the playtest. The “Squirrel Bear” attacks by spitting poisonous acorns and flash acorns, but its tail can be destroyed.

For the “Kabuto-turtle,” whose body is covered in rock, it is crucial to first destroy its armor; after destroying the head armor, attacking the head again will yield valuable horn materials.

Although the flying Griffin is difficult to hit, concentrating attacks to bring it down creates a major opportunity to deal damage. It also appears that its tail can be destroyed. Depending on the time of day, a “Flaming Griffin”—which is more powerful than the standard Griffin—may also appear.

Note that this game appears to feature a durability system for weapons; since there is no way to repair them during the playtest period, you’ll need to craft a new weapon if yours wears out.
*Monster Fantasy* is scheduled for release on PC (Steam) in 2027. Registration for the playtest is currently open, and the playtest is set to begin at 12:00 AM JST on September 23.
